Water pump noise

I posted this to you tube a couple of weeks ago. Since other shops send their customers' to me for diagnoses and repair, I thought I'd post it for the benefit of all.

Symptoms

- noise described as a whine, a sing, or sounding like a vacuum leak

- coolant temperature specific (thus far have only seen it when coolant at operating temperature)

- noise trails off as engine is turned off

To diagnose, lift the fuel tanks and listen to the water pump with a rubber hose between your ear and the water pump.
