I know the engine serial numbers are under the generator/alternator but I'm considering purchasing an engine with no numbers where they are suppose to be. The engine had dual cars at one time and is suppose to be dual port. There is a number on the bottom of engine with a VW stamp. The number is 21.101.102E. There is also a number below the distributer that say's 0231178009. Can anyone tell me what this engine is? Thanks

correction--the number on bottom of engine is: 211.101.102E.

Just going back to the two Bugs and a Dune Buggy I had back in the 70's there should be Two letter's in front of the numbers under the distributer mount...

Look on the engine case under the generator tower. My trike engine has no numbers there, the number is on the side of the lower case (drivers side if I remember correctly) and can only be viewed from under the engine. Yours may be an AS 21 or AS 41 engine code. They are both good engine cases, the AS 21 case being the better of the two.

My aftermarket replacement case did not come with numbers stamped into it. Is supposed to have the numbers from the original put on it by the replacing shop. Or that is how I understood it when I bought it.

Mine has the honda serial number stamped in it. O my a numbers matching vw powered goldwing.
