I just saw this post, and yes it is after Veterans Day. It is just a regular old day in my life. But it is special to me. My defenders of this place I live, made sure I had "today". I wanted to say thank you, for no other reason than I do think of you all. Frequently now that I'm getting old. You all have given me a wonderful, free, and in my generation, a relatively safe place to live. It has been great so far, and all you Vets, I do thank you. OOH RAH! jimsjinx

ultratrike here and was in army in nam july 66 to july 67 . went over in 196 light infranity bargide came back in 25 inf.

USAF 1964-1968 Luck was with me no Nam, 1 yr support for the troops in Northern Thailand. Lots of planes came in with large holes but they were the lucky ones they came back. Love the military and will support our troops til the last breath is drawn. Make it a habit to included our military in your daily prayers. :yes:

Nana, It is enough. Back in Nam days we got nothing for our service. Those of us that did not hide the fact that we served sometimes were scorned. So to be thanked means a lot really. IT IS ENOUGH

My self 28 great yrs U.S. Coast Guard. Wife was a military brat when we met N Japan. So she has been Military her whole life.

Hi Tis, thats not far up the road from me...was you at RAF Upper Heyford i know the USAF used to use the place,i think they had bomber aircraft there, what years were you there ?

United States Marine Corps here.. Class of 73' , 3rd Battalion Parris Island S. C.

2nd Force Recon, Anglico , Two tours Okinawa, 1 tour back to PI for DI school, many Nato's and Med Cruises. Was on the U S Guadacanal in 73', very green.

Now just having fun riding and helping children. PROUD member of the Patriot Guard Riders. Southern Cruisers Riders Club.

USAF: 1952 Airborne radio operator, commissioned 1963, retired as O-4 in 1981. 1953-54 stationed in Japan, flying troops and supplies to Korea. 1969-70 Viet Nam. Saw the world, had a ball. Sony Corp. 1982-95 and retired the second time.

USAF, '69 - '73
Was one of the lucky (??) ones who stayed state side fixing the F111 Simulators so our "wiggle wing" ACs & WSOs had a fighting chance to come back in one piece. I also served with the Nellis AFB Honor Gard, '70 - '73. We "planted" a lot of GOOD men back then. I'm now a member of the NV Patriot Gard Escort Riders.

The NV PG is a separate entity from the National PGR though we do follow their guide lines. National couldn't understand that we only have 2 major areas of population with whitch to cover the whole state -- 9th largest state in the country. The Southern NV contingent covers as far north as Ely & Tonopah -- both over 200 miles away, so almost any out of town mission is an overnighter or a VERY LONG day. We have had the priviledge of escorting the Traveling Wall into town.


The Traveling Wall gets here about every other year. I'll NEVER forget the first time I visited it here. I'd just found the name of one of the guys I'd been in the Drum & Bugle Corps at Lackland & at Tech School at Chanute AFB Ill with. Needless to say, my face "was raining". While standing there trying to get the emotions back under control, I felt a hand on my left shoulder & a voice said "Thank you."


I turned around & it was Wayne Neuton! He's a major supporter of our troops. If you ever get the chance to see him in one of his shows, support him as he does us! You won't be sorry -- he puts on one heck of a show! Thanks Kay for your story. As someone else said, even though it's been 36 years since I got out, it still chokes me up when someone says "Thank You" considering the treatment those of us who were gutsy or crazy enough to wear our uniforms off base recieved back then.

Sorry I am so late to this amazing thread. Right off: I salute all you vets. Freedom truely isn't free!! I come from a long line of Military. Did my time in the Indian Air Force & was grounded for "medical reasons" (that's what the Disch Book says). Joined the Brit Merchant Marine & was assigned to a 'special assignment' vessel officially carrying "grain" from the US to VN. Truth was considerably more scarey & would have left very little or no trace had we been hit. 4 trips of this 'munitions run from Hercules & Oakland, CA to VN. The entire crew felt nothing but the greatest of admiration for 'our' troops while alongside in VN. BUT then we'd return Stateside & could absolutely not fathom the attitude of some people towards returning vets. Would drive me !@#$ crazy. In my old country (India) returning soldiers were treated like heroes. How could vets be so badly treated in Gods Own Country???? Did not understand till 1977 when we immigrated here.

Saltywheels good people served in more ways then direct combat. Someone had to be the transpoters and the trainers. Support is everything.
