I use a Vance Hines FP3 on my 2014 Tri-Glide and have a "tech" question concerning its use. Other than a smartphone, is there another small Bluetooth monitor screen having the capability to download the V&H FP3 application and display the app's "real-time" data information as a smartphone would?

Thanks,

Allen

Tablet Size

Yes, it does seem 7 inches is about the smallest tablet manufactured with Bluetooth capability. However, I wanted a tablet or other android viewing device approx. the same size as my smartphone or smaller. I have a Samsung Galaxy 8; however, I did not want use it mounted to my Trike due to vibration and/or slipping out of the phone mount while traveling. Would have been nice if Vance Hines would have offered an optional Bluetooth screen viewer for their FP3 system. Anyway, I will keep looking.

Thank you,

Allen S.

I’m using an old iPhone 5 I picked up on Ebay for $20. This is the oldest iPhone that will support IOS compatible with the FP3 app. Battery life is bad so I keep it plugged in while riding. Works great.

Take note , when the phone battery takes a total shit , even life support won’t help it function .

You can always buy a pay as you go phone. Even if you do not activate it, you can still use the wifi and bluetooth functions. They have a lot of sizes available.

I only use the phone for my FP3 display. No sim card or anything on it. If it takes a dump I’m okay with replacing it. It works for my needs and having it charging while in use seems to be working. With the low cost if it was a better option than mounting my real phone on the bars. I also was worried about loosing it.

FP3 Viewing Data Questions

Pan head Steve,

Is the cheaper smartphone you use to monitor/view the FP3 real time data, when riding your bike, the only phone you use for viewing. Or do you also have the ability to monitor/view the FP3 real time data, while your bike is just idling, using your other more expensive smartphone? Also, when monitoring the real time data, does the FP3 application access the Internet; as well as, use Bluetooth connectivity, to display the data on your smartphone? The reason I am asking these questions is because I am wondering if the downloaded FP3 application only allows the use of one smartphone to monitor/view the displayed real time data?

Thank you,

Allen S.

Allen,

Yes, the cheap iPhone 5 displays real time data from the FP3. I use my more expensive iPhone for map updates since it has a sim card and 5 mhz wifi. The old iPhone is also only able to load an old version of the FP3 app. The latest version of the FP3 app requires a newer iOS that cannot be loaded on an iPhone 5 so I wouldn’t use it for a map update.

The FP3 device only allows one bluetooth connection also. So I carry my expensive phone in my pocket and mount the cheap one on the bars. If I’m remapping I just leave the cheap phone turned off.

In other words the cheap phone work fine for monitoring sensor data.

Hope this helps.

Steve

Panhead Steve,

Thank you for your response. I was not sure if the downloaded FP3 application would only recognize the first smartphone used when the FP3 unit was initially installed and first map flashed onto the bike. In turn, thank you for help in answering my questions.

Thank you,

Allen S.
