Hi,
Just bought a 1998 Valk with a Motortrike conversion 8100 miles on it, the front tire is a stock Dunlop D404F 150/180-17 72H, the tire has cracks along the side wall. The rear tires are T/A Radial P235/60R15 98S M+S.

I'm having a 6 degree rake kit installed and would like to change the front tire at the same time.

Anyone have any suggestions what would be the best tire to use on the front.

Keep in mind that Dunlop makes some great tires. I am to assume that your staying with the stock 17" wheel? Why not have the same tire installed again or check with the dealer to see if they have a better version? Metzler or Dunlop are very excellent brands and quality of tires for motorcycles/trikes.

Thanks Stinger,

I was just curious if there was something better than the stock Dunlop, as long as I'm changing it I wanted to get the best one for my trike.

Type tires in the search and sit back and read. I did and wound up with BT45 rear tire mounted on front in reverse.

iv'e tried many types of tires on the front of my I/s trike. best tire iv'e had so far with little to no cupping and wear is great. is the shinko tour master. 130/90/17 I also only run 35 psi in it.
I also am running a 6 degree rake.

Every rear tire I could find in 17'' was smaller than the Valk OEM front tire. Messed up the speedometer more than it already is. LOL

I did as SolidBob suggested. I run the bias-ply Dunlop with good results. Stays balanced, very little noise & cupping. I wish they got better mileage, about 14K is what I get... aggressively riding.

Good luck in whatever you decide.

Anything is possible if you have enough money! :D Having owned a Valk in both two & three wheel version, I don't think an 18" wheel is available except as a custom, one off item. Big $$$. You might go over to the VRCC board & ask there. I ran the BT45 rear reveresed on the front of my Valk trike. Got about 28K miles out of the first one & had 24K on the second when I sold it & had 4/32" tread left. Neither tire cupped significantly. I use my GPS as my primary speedo, so the smaller size was no big deal to me. FWIW. Stan
