Hi guys,

I have a question for all you guys that work on your own trikes. I would like to get the Hubster a torque wrench for Valentines Day :D I am clueless about such things. Occasionally he makes adjustments to his bike and I would like to get him the right tool for the job. He has a 2016 Street Glide Special so I would like to get him a wrench that will work in the majority of applications. Any suggestions? You would really be helping me out. He’s hard to buy for.

Carol,

The ones I would recommend would be from Snap-on Tools. They are costly, but accurate & you only buy it once.

There are many different torque wrenches out there, so its hard to point to one that will work. If he's just doing "weekend" type maintenance, an "Adjustable click type", 3/8" drive in "Foot Pounds"(20-100 f-p, p/n: QD2R100A ) is what I'd recommend. If he's into rebuilding engines & such on a regular basis, a 1/2" drive also in FP, might be more up his alley?

Here's a link to their current line:

If you're looking to keep it on the cheap, one having similar specs to the Snap-on's could be had from either Harbor Freight Tools, or Northern Tools. Both have websites to order from, and are dependable for having stock & reasonable shipping rates. A word of caution on these however: They will likely be made "offshore", & calibration & reliability might not be the same as what Snap-on consistently provides.

Hope this helps...

Just me...But,

As a Man, When it comes to tools, A gift certificate to a tool store would be my ideal gift, Tools for a man are like handbags or shoes are for a woman, Kinna personal.

Give me a gift certificate and let me have the added fun of shopping for it...Thats why i never buy tools over the internet, I want to hold the tool in my hand before i buy it...

Good advice

I would vote for the 1/2 inch drive rather than the 3/8.

I dont want to get too deep in this

As a retired mechanic

If I was to start over again I would start with Craftsman because of the cost and availability

I have Snap Ons now

1 is a flexhead 3\8 drive the other is 1\2 flex head

Both have very acurate torquing

But IMO not cost affective unless you make your living and use them every day

An inch pound 3\8 drive will come in handy for smaller fasteners like drain plugs, handle bar screws and derby covers

As a Home Depot department manager..all Husky Tools are lifetime warranty. And I would recommend 1/2". I have been in the Hardware business since 1969.

Carol, I think the gift card is the way to go, I don't do much wrenching anymore but am still very particular about what I buy and how it fits my hands.

Another vote for a gift certificate. You just can't go wrong on that. That's all that I get on Christmas and birthdays. I love them.

Another vote for a gift card, a Visa card or something that can be used where he wants to go to get what ever rather one certain store. IMHO  Fred

As said above if your hubby is just a home mechanic it makes no sense to spend hundreds of dollars on a torque wrench i have had the same Craftsman 1/2 drive torque wrench for at least 20 years.I used my inch pound torque more often then my ft lbs when i had a two wheeler, but either way a gift card or the actual tool would be fine.

Carol, if you'd rather give him a torque wrench than a gift card, I'd suggest this one at Amazon. Tekton 24335 1/2" 10-150lb

It is their best selling and highest rated one with 1850 positive reviews. It will do anything he needs to do and if for any reason he doesn't like it, you can always return it.

Thanks everybody :D

Wow Papa Zook :clapping:. That was a great idea :D Thanks for the link. I can get him that AND a gift card.

My torque wrench has some age on it and I'm not sure its calibrated right anymore so I've been looking to get another one and thats the one I'm getting...just ordered it.

I think the hubster will like it too. ThumbUp

Tektron is a good company and they stand behind their products. Tektron.
