Upper luggage box on trike

I'm not sure if that is the right name for it, but here is my issue. On my Honda GW trike, the latch rod came loose from the latch on the inside, thereby locking the box. Hubby wants to know if there is any way to get that open without destroying the upper box.

By the way, we took her out for a 4 day weekend to Kentucky (from MO). We had a great time & the trike was great -- no problem other than the locked box. Fortunately, I had just taken my purse out of it before it locked. We had some rain, but the Frogg Toggs worked great!

Here is a picture that might help once you get in there. I also read that you can use a coat hanger, bend a little hook on the end, then reach up with it where the three latches are. You need to hook the bar that goes across in the picture and pull down on it to release the latch. I hope some of this helps.
