Turn signals wont auto cancel

Today I was going into the post office and at the first turn ( and all turns) the turn signals didn't auto cancel. FTW.. There has been no issue with this prior to today.
With the trikes we don't have the lean sensor so all there should be is that when the front wheel is recentered after the turn that it turns the signal off.

It will manual cancel with no problem.

I am not quite positive just what it is that mechanically turns off the signals once the wheel is re-centered after a turn but there should be a mechanical arm/ lever something connected to the bottom on the switch that would cause it to rotate to the center/ (OFF) position and turn the signals off.

Tore the steering stem apart and could not find a mechanical linkage of anything that would do that.. Nothing in the parts manual shows anything.. YES the body of the lower switch is physically connected to the steering stem but that is the switch body.. Nothing holds that center tab to anything that I can see.

Ayone got any ideas.

Its a RoadSmith 2005 Honda...

Either I have 2 problems. 1 is that rotating the center of that lower swith does nothing which could mean that the lower switch is bad AND that 2 if there is suppose to be a mechanical; arm tied to that center piece of the switch that it is all of the sudden missing.

Any Road smith trikers mind taking a look at what lower switch at the bottom of your steering , right behind those hoses between the forks and tell me what IF anything is there....

Thanks

Howdy Chuck. Sorry to hear of your problem.

YUP, you have lost the arm that clips over the center of that assembly and attaches to the trike directly behind. It's held on by a single screw that has obviously backed out. If you have any friends with GL1800s you might take a look. I bet you could fashion one rather then having to buy the entire assembly just for the arm.

I stand corrected you can get just that part. Here is link. You need #3, 13, and 18.

I was under the impression that there are 2 ways the wing cancels turn signals. The lean sensor, and a timer giving 9 seconds or within a certain distance whichever comes first. Those were in the owners manual of my 2003 wing and unless they have changed there was no mention of the wheel coming to center.
My 2010 will cancel in about 9 seconds unless I re-punch it several times coming to a turn.

I don't know exactly how that assembly at the triple tree base fits into the equation but I know it does... Since that piece is missing I'd bet that is he problem.

With the trikes not leaning the lean sensor is not in the equation. OR at least that is shat I am guessing.

It will have to do more with bike movement and recentering the wheel

)&%$#$# the friggen pictures do not do justice to what the thing actually look like. But you are right in that is whats missing.

Even though I have a high degree of confidence that THOSE are the ONLY parts causing my problem BUT in the unlikely event I have also a switch issue I went ahead and ordered the switch also. As the parts house does not charge a restock fee I will just put on the MISSING parts and see if that fixes it. If it does then everything else goes back to store. IF not then I have other item that I can replace one at a time.

I know for a fact that if the bike is setting still and you turn the turn signals on and then rotate that little shaft to sim a corner and then recenter that shaft THE TURN SIGNALS DO NOT cancel. I figure that is because somewhere in the mix the bike has to be moving or at ? a speed. Otherwise the system sees it as setting still. Either that OR I also have a switch problem along with the missing parts.

You could double check me on this by doing same w your ride while setting still and seeing of it will auto cancel while NOT moving

Both my 2010 gw's would not cancel at times, 2010 gw 2 wheel, 2010 csc trike and now a 2012 rs trike. The 2012 has done it twice now.
They work normal 98% or more of the time.
I would double check to see it it does it every time.

Like we all suspected.... Movement down the road is also part of the equation. I went out and turned my turn signals on and it never shut off until I shut off the ignition switch.

Chuck, I sure hope that switch is good. It's not a simple task to replace it. You have to remove some other pieces and parts to get to the connector at the top of the steering stem. Not a HUGE job but can get aggravating if you've never done it before.

I'm still betting the missing pieces will solve the problem.... :xszpv::xszpv:

Keep us posted please....

When I had my rake kit installed, the installer bent the little arm and it was not operating the switch. The signal lights would not restore immediately after the turn but would finally restore after a few seconds timeout. I don't remember how long the timeout was but it was very noticeable. I found the problem and repaired it myself without much problem. If that part is missing, I bet that is the problem.
