Trunk Latches

My HT1500 Roadsmith trunk has a latch that operates from the original saddlebag operating latch that is essentially a latch that connects to the saddlebag (GL1500) latch via a long cable. When the trunk is full, if something pushes on the cable inside the trunk, the trunk can pop open. Has anyone installed any sort of safety latches so their trunk can't open? Perhaps something not too ugly? Any ideas or better yet pictures of what was done?

George you have to admit that is a pretty odd issue... Is there some way you could fasten the cable up where your cargo wouldn't push on it? Also, If it works the way most of that style cable does, the shield should be held in place by a bracket only allowing the center cable to move when the release handle is pulled.

Just brain storming here... :xszpv::xszpv:

I am a professional mechanic. I have asked another mechanic friend to look at it as well. The cable just hangs across the top of the trunk. When you bump it, it opens the latch which are Y shaped fingers that pivot open... bang. The trunk is open. You adjust the mechanism by moving the part of the latch that is retained by the fingers. It latches just fine but when there is stuff in the trunk... bang, it is open. I have played with adjustment for HOURS. I was told HOW to adjust by Roadsmith but the thing won't stay closed. I want to put some latches on so I don't have to put a bungee cord from the tow-ball thing to the trunk to keep it from opening.

Hopefully someone has had this exact issue and has a fix for you. I wonder if Hannigan could lend a hand. I know it's an older conversion but they still might have info you can use. Worth a call....:xszpv::xszpv:

First I want to contact Roadsmith again and then my bud Kenny with KDCycles who did the conversion. Unfortunately, the latch was EPOXIED to the top of the trunk box and would be difficult to take off and replace without damage.
