Good evening.
I've been to Prudhoe Bay 3 times. Converted my 1993 Ultra with a solid rear axle Paughco kit knowing that true independent suspension is better for on road, but not sure about "off road". First time (2019), I broke a belt on the way back, about 60 miles out of Prudhoe Bay. Second time I rode there and back home in 10 days with no issues (2023), but it is a brutal ride. 3rd time was in a truck to show my wife how beautiful it is up over Atigun (2024). Headed there this year on my basically stock two wheel 2017 FLHTKUL with a friend. His bike broke down about 20 miles short of the Arctic Circle, not wanting to abandon him, we came back from the breakdown site to Washington, him in a U-Haul, me riding out front. So, that's the history.
I want to convert my 2017 to a true independent suspension trike that can handle the Yukon Territories washboard gravel and the Dalton's everything in the world bad road, including Calcium Chloride dumps, which gave me a mud bath this year on the '17 as a two wheeler.
I own 3 trike conversions, the 1993, a 2003 Anniversary Harley with a Mystery Designs conversion and a 1947 Knuck framed trike I built, using a Servi-Car axle. I know I can take the '93 back up, but do not want to do that. I will not ride a 2 wheel Harley back up, nor would I take the 2003 or the 1947. That leaves me with converting the 2017 to an independent suspension trike that can handle anything the YT and Dalton can throw at it.
I'm asking for recommendations.
Thank you.
Bob
