My friend just got her 89 GW triked (Motortrike) and she has a little arthritis which makes it difficult for her to lift her leg over the seat to get on the trike.
I am wondering if anyone else has had the problem and how did you solve it?

Is she getting on the foot peg first?? That's what I do. Stand up and throw my leg over. Try this. right foot on front foot peg, stand up. left foot on rear foot peg. Swing right leg over and land on right front foot peg. Sit down on driver seat. assuming she is driving.

The problem is she can't swing her leg over. The mid step would probably do the trick but it costs too much....

Also check these guys out, they are a sponsor....

the last one listed in the column.... you'll have to call and see if they have it available for your model....

Yes, that would probably do the trick, but not for $700. Have to find some other way.... (Those must be made of gold or silver )

:)

Have her try sitting on the seat, side saddle with her legs off to the side, then she can grab her leg and pull it over the trike to the other side. That's how my wife gets on the back of my TRI.

We had a few posts about this in the Bike To Trike - Experienced Riders Thread a few years ago. Here is a most excellent video from TT member John Luciano that he posted in 2009:
If there is no backrest as on the trike shown it may be even easier to get on this way and slide up onto the rear seat sitting sort of sidesaddle. Then, after following Gorilla's method above slide forward onto the pilot seat. ( If the husband is real nice and they have a backrest he will take it off -if it is removable- when she mounts up and put it back on after she is on the trike.)

Use the left passenger foot board to step up on and then put right leg over seat onto right passenger foot board, sit down then move feet to rider's foot pegs, slide body forward to the rider's part of the seat. Reverse that to dismount

I bought one of these.

My daughter is handicapped, and it's hard for her to keep balance even on solid ground. She is now able to climb on the bike--not with ease mind ya--but without dear old dad having to lift her on it. All I have to do is hold a hand for support.

Incidentally, I can get on REALLY easy now. :D

BTW, if you say anything about seeing it on Trike Talk, you get $100 off. I know that's still $600 but hey, that's a little off.

They are solid as a rock as well. I can stand on it and jump up and down, and it doesn't move one iota.

This works if you are pretty steady afoot. If not (like my dad), he tried it and about fell on his head to the other side. If I hadn't grabbed him, that is exactly what would've happened.

With her standing on the rear peg with her left foot there is not much of a lift to get over the seat. Remember right foot front peg, left foot rear peg, right foot over seat to front peg. you try it

Thanks. I think this will work for her. Won't know till the the trike is delivered next week? Will let you know then....

It worked just like in the video

She just had the trike delivered and we tried mounting the trike like in the video. She had no problems getting on ThumbUp. Thanks for all the help..... Here she is on the new Motortrike conversion.

This is what my wife does, she has two hip replacements. She also has a paralyzed lower right leg so she has to do this all the time. I just patiently wait for her and we are all happy. I do lay the back rest down, forward, and she just sits on the passenger seat just like she belongs there.

Mine was simple to make in the garage. I had an old foot peg assembly and welded it to a 1" tubing and attached it with muffler clamps where you cant see the on the bottom bike frame.
It's solid and looks good. It's mounted right behind the foot board.ThumbUp
