Which online trip planner do you suggest to give the best information as to road conditions........ Major Construction slow downs, road closures etc... ?

Is There Such A Thing?

I would like to know if there is an all-in-one trip planner that also gives road conditions too but I don't think there is such a thing. At least not one online and free. But I'd buy one if there is but I certainly won't pay a yearly fee for one. Just wouldn't use it enough to justify it. From what I've seen, a lot use googlemaps for planning and then use Waze on their phone for road conditions and closures with a side benefit of radar traps. But my phone gets turned off when I ride as I really don't want yet another distraction. My GPS is one too many but sorta neccessary to get around. So I don't know of anything that does it all.:Shrug:

Well I guess I am glad that I am not the only one not finding such a tool. You would think with all the traffic cameras out there, that someone would have created a way to make them useful.

I just hate riding along on a long trip and WHAM, there is a major traffic stoppage. Surprise you get to sit for an hour...... At least if I knew about it ahead of time, I get the choice to go around or not!

If I find anything useful I will be sure to post it.

I check the states I'll be traveling in on the internet....i.e., ORDOT (Oregon DOT) and there's road cameras set up all along the routes (north/south/east/west) that I can check for construction, closures, etc. I was told by the DOT that the limit for "sitting in traffic" with a flagger is 15-30 minutes. I do know that Oregon has a sit-an-wait limit...believe it's 15 minutes (don't quote me on that)!

Use DOT webpages

I work with FHWA, so I have learned through years of interaction that almost every state has a webpage that shows where roads are closed or constricted due to traffic. You have to find each state's page but if you just google the states in question along with highway road conditions, you can find it fairly quickly.

I wish the Harley Boom Box had such a feature but it doesn't. I have struggled to use it when uploading a trip I worked out on the Harley User website. I have never been able to successfully upload it without the file implanting multiple locations. I don't know if its something I have done wrong or its just bad software.

I have the Sirius pkg with my Harley Boom system. All I have to do on a road trip is enter a destination daily. I just estimate where I might be at days end. I get more directions than I need, but the system does a good job of warning about traffic jams. They are timely and up-to-date.
