trike troubles.

well, I started it to move it out of my way to do some welding Saturday morning. It started fine ran about 30seconds and quit. will not re start. unhooked the power commander and still will not start. went to the dealer yesterday and got contact spray cleaner and the grease . going to clean all the connectors and re grease them after inspection for loose or bent pins. finally got it to read diag. gave me a large list of codes. I looked them up on the computer . most deal with the throttle sensors so I think this is probably the problem .

I found this is a common problem on the 08 ultra, big motor, with over 20,000 miles. some even go into pinched or broken wires. it may be a long winter.

this seems to be common as the dealer told me the same thing. it didn't make a difference with mine but .........

Where your handlebars changed out at some point?

:pepper::pepper::pepper: I fixed it (again) cleaned all the contacts . put new grease on...would not start !
at this point I was now pulling my hair out. I started thinking about the basics.
I pulled the front plug out and checked the spark. it was firing so I sprayed a little either into the cylinder and put the plug in. it fired. I sprayed a little into the air box. it fired a couple of times. now I knew the problem was (as I first thought ) a fuel problem.
I pulled the top off the fuel tank and the pump was running like it should, but one of the lines had came off. I guess when I changed the fuel filter I must have not gotten the line secured good enough. this time I made sure the clip was in place.

put it back together and it once again runs like it should. all of this trouble and it was simply not getting gas.

thanks to all for your help.
*after cleaning all the contacts I wont have to worry about that for a while

Tom, did you replace the original fuel supply line from the tank to the injector tee?

I had an issue with vapor lock. Turns out the original 08 hose end that attaches to the tank port was soft and would cause the engine not to start until it was popped off or the engine cooled off.

no but I would take the gas cap off and try to start it after waiting a while and still nothing . I pulled the sending unit up and only had one line in place . we had replaced the fuel filter when I had a problem about 2 months ago. I fished the line out of the tank and plugged it onto the sending unit( making sure the clip latched this time. ) tried to start it and it fired right up. I was down to about 60 miles on the fuel so I figure it was only picking up from one side.

mistakes like this are great. It cost nothing to fix but time. and I wont forget it.

:pepper::pepper::pepper: Glad you got her running! :clapping::clapping::clapping:

rode about 90 miles sunday . stoped , shut it off, and re-started 4 or 5 times. I was 1 up so I rode it pretty hard. didn't skip a beat. I think I got it whipped. ThumbUp

ride on til the next gremlin.

Im riding a motor trike /08 ultra conversion.
took a ride yesterday about 90 miles . Had some intermittent missing in the engine with acceleration. not too bad but noticeable . worse at lower r.p.m.s .
as we do a lot of back road rides I figured maybe I had again got some bad gas.
turned left at a cross rode and started to accelerate and the throttle had no response. motor kept running at about 1100 rpm but would not accelerate. It was about a mile to our next stop so I let the clutch out and idled to the stop. I shut the bike off and waited about 5 min. I started it back up and it was fine. the throttle worked and we drove it home .

motor still has the miss and I am going to drain the tank and flush it , but ????? why did the throttle do that and is it something I need to look further into ? I guess I will know more when I get the gas thing figured out.

Hi, Did you check fuel line inside tank. Was fuel level at half or lower. Fuel line inside rubs on inner liner. Will make a pin hole and start to suck air. You can normally hear the air bubbles if tank is about half full. Tom
