Trike Talk Texas Hill Country Reunion 2019

I checked the weather forecast along the route, looks good as of now. :clapping: Last year I rode to Kerrville to alert the restaurant to have plenty of cheesecake on hand during the time we were there. Maybe Carla can do that for us while we are riding around in west Texas.

You’re going to west Texas?

Ohhhh... gotcha.... you mean your panhandle trip coming back from Kansas to Kerrville.

I will run by Bella Sera next week and let them know to have PLENTY of Black Forest Cheesecake on hand for the following week!

I know you did that last year and it seems I remember that they still ran out??

Pretty popular fat pill! :)

It's a pilot thing.

When I called The Aviation Weather Center for Texas weather I had two choices, east or west.

West Texas is often subdivided according to distinct physiographic features. The portion of West Texas that lies west of the

Pecos River
is often referred to as "Far West Texas" or the "

Trans-Pecos
", a term first introduced in 1887 by Texas geologist

Robert T. Hill
. The Trans-Pecos lies within the

Chihuahuan Desert
, and is the most arid portion of the state. Another part of West Texas is the

Llano Estacado
, a vast region of high, level plains extending into

Eastern New Mexico
and the

Texas Panhandle
. To the east of the Llano Estacado lies the “

redbed country
” of the

Rolling Plains
and to the south of the Llano Estacado lies the

Edwards Plateau
. The Rolling Plains and the Edwards Plateau subregions act as transitional zones between eastern and western Texas.

There is... fairly decent... VERY VERY pricey... if you go to it be careful how much meat you pile on your tray.... they weigh the tray and you’ll be SHOCKED at the price they charge. But hey.... the beans, bread, other condiments are “free”.. You do also pay extra for your drink, cobbler, potato salad.

Still its nothing anywhere near as good as Lum’s at Junction and Bill’s at Kerrville.

There is also Mac’s BBQ in Midland but its up in town and you would never find it....it too is very pricey and not that wonderful.

Johnny’s BBQ is just north of downtown on the main drag (Big Spring Street, aka State Hwy 349) but had gone down-hill badly after the old owner sold it a few years ago.

You might want to save your lunch money til you get to the Hill Country. Just say’n...

Google it.

KD’s BBQ, Midland TX

It’s at the I-20 intersection with Garden City Highway (aka State Hwy 158).

BTW... Garden City Hwy, aka State Hwy 158, is the road you will be taking out of Midland headed this way.

Saga of the Black Forest Cheesecake

Ok... so here’s the deal with WHY Bella Sera always runs out of BFC!

I was just there and spoke with the head shed. I explained that we had a group coming in next week and everybody wants a piece of the pie but they always run out before everyone can get one.

He said they only order 3 at a time. I asked if I could buy one of the whole cheesecakes now (thinking I would put it in my freezer for the group later on) No - we don’t have a whole one... we only order 3 SLICES at a time from our supplier!!!!!!! SHOCK!!!! :xzqxz:

Really? You’re kidding!

Because they don’t always sell very fast and we get stuck with cheesecakes going bad and wasted.

He said if we could let them know a day or 2 ahead .... how many we would need .... they would make sure to have them on hand...

Oh CRIMINY !!! Told him we’d have to wait and see since I didn’t know: what day we would be at the restaurant, and, how many slices the group would actually order.

PHOOEY!!!!

Then I ordered 1 slice of BFC to go.... he had to check the cooler to make sure he had one .... yes he had 2.

OH.... it is SO good!!!! :D:xszpv:

Monday on the trip from SAT to OKC I stopped for lunch at the Hard 8 BBQ in Stephenville, TX. I had a sausage and sliced brisket sandwich on a toasted jalapeno and cheese bun, a bag of chips and a drink for $8.99 plus tax. I got to Stephenville about 10:50 so I gassed up across the road, then I was first in line.
