I have a 2005 Electra Glide Standard with 40.000 miles on it. I am looking at putting a Motor Trike kit on it.
My question is how will this afect my top sapeed and passing power.
I have a friend who cant get above 70mph on his 95 electra glide with his trike kit.
Any help would be ap;prfeciaterd.

You should not have a problem. You might want to look at a cam change. Your friend must have something wrong....gearing or tune or something. I can cruise all day, two-up and pull a trailer as fast I want to go with reserve power.

You will loose just a little off the top end. My Road Glide will still top a 100 mph. I have the 103 motor. If you are stock then you should still be able to get up into the 90's. As far as passing power don't be afraid to down shift. People forget that their max power is up in the 3000 rpm range. They are moving along at 2400 to 2600 rpms and try to pass. Down shift your RPPM's are now up in the 3000 range and you have all the power you need then can upshift when necessary.

My experience with an 05 Road King with a Motor Trike kit and a stock 88" engine carbed was that it was way underpowered. I do live in Colorado though and have the mountian passes to deal with. It is my wife's trike and she weighs about 130lbs and solo she had a heck of a time with passing and the mountian passes. Went with an S&S 111" motor and all is good now.
Just my experience,
SR

There's no easy way to say this(Sorry, I know this will upset some).
Harley's are underpowered in some minds. I had 4 and they were all fine for normal riding.
They will run the speed limits and do it all day.
They will not win any races but, then we're not running a race, we are enjoying the ride.
Yes, you will lose top end (who cares) and it will not accelerate as fast (who cares)
As I have advised others asking me this same question, trike it, ride it. If it doesn't satisfy you in the power department, then you can make mods as you see fit to do.

While it's down being triked it would be a good time to freshen up the top end and do a 95" upgrade...also if you haven't down at least a stage 1 upgrade, I would do that too....

It will work just fine like it is...until you decide to do an upgrade. I would trike it first and then worry about adding some power. The "parachute" kicks in up there around 85 and if you want to ride that fast all the time....you need to consider riding something else altogether anyway. I am on a full Stage II (95) and I can run with the big-dogs all day long. I can get a 100 out of it easy enough, but 99.99999 percent of my riding is in the 70-80 range. You have a transmission that will downshift and get you over any hill you want to climb, or get by anyone you want to pass for the time being.

I'd kit it.....see how I liked it then consider an upgrade.
