Triglide critique

My 2012 Tri-Glide is my 5th motorcycle and my 4th Harley. I bought my first Harley (96' 1200 Sportster Sport) in 98' and have been in love ever since. Before my trike I owned a 2009 Streetglide but had to trade due to an injury in Afghanistan. My only option really was a trike and I was very apprehensive. As of today I have almost 10,000 miles and that is what prompted me to write this review. First, I have to say it does take a little getting used to. It's not impossible but nothing can replicate the feeling of two wheels rolling down the highway with some great tunes blasting.

Secondly, I have to say that for the price the MOCO should really include a few more upgrades on the trikes but we all know that will never happen. My three biggest complaints are the heat, the seat and the gas mileage. I believe that Harley could have done much better on all of these. It's not like this is the first year they have made a trike.

I have only had one major problem with it so far. From the beginning my reverse motor never did sound right and then one day it just went out without any warning or anything. I used it to back out of my carport went for a ride and went to back out of a parking spot and it did not work. Fortunately I was able to back myself out even with my hurt leg.

So far, the only things that I have done to my bike are: changed the windshield, added a windshield bag, Vance and Hines slip-ons, stage I ECM, SERT, high flow air cleaner, Rockford Fosgate speakers front and rear, chrome forks, and chrome rear bumper.

I plan on adding the Ipod interface, tourpak luggage rack, and chrome wheels.

Overall, I have to say that I am very pleased with the bike. I ride a lot for the amount of time that I actually have to ride. I have read many critiques for and against it but as I said, overall I am pleased.

Thank you for your service, and thank you for the clear, well balanced report! I think it is tough to find the PERFECT bike of any kind. We all end up having to add and change and adjust things to make it feel and look right for ourselves. But we sure do love being out on the road, so we are willing to take it on. It sounds like you are enjoying and making the most of every minute! :D

Wife loves her TG also. As far as the reverse motor they do make a noise anyhow , check the breaker behind the right side cover to see if its tripped and if you can look at the end cap on the reverse motor; See pic, this is what can happen if the allen screws become loose on the end cap.

Thank you for your service and welcome to the triking world.

Looks like you have the heat problem pretty much taken care of. MPG is another story; with an extra 400 lbs and the aerodynamics of a barn, we don't stand much of a chance of getting really good gas mileage. As for the seat, search on this forum. There are a few discussions about good seats, but since you are on your 4th Harley, you probably already know what you want. The one thing that is different is the rear end on the TG is so big, you can put a huge seat on it without the seat dominating the lines of the TG.;)

welcome aboard. Thank you for your sacrifice Actually the MPG of most HD trikes is rather good compared to other trikes. If you are getting around 35 or better you are doing well

Was going to start a new thread today but this is close enough I think. I have a 2010 with stage one air, ceramic coated headpipe, dyno tuned mufflers and a PCV. Ever since 2011 and the 30 tooth pulley came out I wanted to ride one and feel the difference if any. We had a large rally this weekend in northern Colorado and Harley brought in their demo fleet. So Friday night I went out and rode the 2012/2013 triglide demo. My thoughts on the ride have two major points. First, that 30 tooth sprocket is the REAL deal. Taking off in first gear is much better and also 6th gear would be much better utilized. Secondly with my exhaust mods, I felt much more power and much less heat than the stock demo. Temperature was in the low 90s at the time of the ride. That 30 tooth sprocket will definitely be my next purchase.

Welcome and Road Rage IS Fun. What heat issue? Never heard of that with TG's before. That's just Louisiana being Louisiana in summer. Yeah, even I can't type that with a straight face. And thanks for your service.
