If you have the factory installed security system on your Tri-Glide and are thinking of adding the optional siren part number 68328-06, read this first.

I bought the Siren online and when I installed it, it would go off every time I turned the ignition switch on. This is what is causing this problem.

Harley issued TT408 on June 18, 2009. this is the text of that bulletin.

Due to the fact that the Tri-Glide and sidecar models utilize a remote bank angle sensor in addition to the HFSM, The siren functions slightly different than other models.

if a siren is installed on Tri-Glide or Sidecar equipped vehicles, the siren may sound when the ignition switch is turned on, even if the security system is disarmed. This will only happen if the transmission is in neutral or the clutch is pulled in.

To prevent the siren from sounding at key-on, be sure that the transmission is in gear when you turn the ignition switch to "ignition". You can then shift the transmission to neutral for start up and the siren will remain silent.

I just thought I would post this to prevent someone else from going through what I did. I would have to break a 45 year habit of always having the bike in Neutral and having the clutch pulled in when I start my bike. Too much for this old codger.

Just thinking out loud, but i thought i read in the owners manual not to attempt to change gears with the engine off. It is supposed to damage the transmission.
The actual quote from my 2009 touring manual reads in bold print:
Shift to neutral before stopping engine. Shifting mechanism can be damaged by shifting gears while engine is stopped. (00183a)
Also if trying to get into gear while engine is not running the book also recommends to rock bike back and forth to give the drivetrain some slack to allow gears to engage.
Just food for thought.

Actually, I went ahead and installed the siren and I am starting to get use to starting it without the siren blaring at me. I just leave the bike in gear when I shut it down, and then when I'm ready to start, I turn the ignition to run until the security light goes out, and then I pull the clutch in and start the bike in gear. You can turn the run switch to run, and wait for the amber light in the speedometer to go out while you are waiting on the security light to extinguish to.
