Tour box rear lift

Anyone who doesn't liberally use either Loctite on EVERY single fastener, or a nyloc nut, is begging for it to shake itself loose. Obviously it isn't a design problem as there are hundreds of these kits currently in use. Dennis produces high quality, well designed products and stands behind everything he sells. If there is any issue whatsoever, just call him.

Now at a total of 22,000 miles with the rails. I haven't used locktite. I've used a flat washer and lock washer combo. As a matter of fact, I stuck with the anti-sieze originally provided. I've checked it at about 4 points on my 7,100 mile trip to Rhode Island and back, especially after travelling the I-80, I-81, and I-84 in PA, eastbound and westbound. Still nice and tight.
GARYD, hope you take Dennis up on his offer and trade out your rails. It's worth a try. It could be the threading in the rails. Let us know how it works out.

One thing folks have to remember about applying loc tite, both the bolt and the nut or threads the nut is being screwed into have to be clean of all oil and grease. Loc tite sells a primer, I use brake parts cleaner and then blow both off with compressed air.

Great point M3ThumbUp

I have talked to Dennis and he's sending me another set to try out. ThumbUp
Keeping fingers crossed.
I won't use Locktite on the new set per the instruction.

I also like msocko3's tip on cleaning holes and bolts with cleaner first when Locktite is called for.

Why would you not use the locktite if yours is coming loose???????????

Did you overtighten the screws on the first set, causing damage to the threads? ( I am guilty of that on numerous occassions).

I would use blue locktite and just snug them up good without over doing it.

Instructions say not to use Locktite.

I did use it AFTER they came loose the first time, but it didn't help. We think it may be bad taps. I don't know. Maybe Dennis will find out when I send the old ones back. From all the posts here this seems like a fluke.
Don't let my comments keep you from buying a set. They are of high quality construction and design, very well made.

I doubt if I overtightened 1 bolt let alone 4.
If I had over tightened them the first time and damaged the treads, I doubt they would have held for as long as they did the second time.

I send them now with loose bolts, flat and lock washers. This way if one chooses to use lock-tite, there is no anti-sez to get in the way of it holding.
I will let each make their own decesion.:)

I received the new set Friday and installed them Sunday. Hope Dennis finds out what went wrong. I looked at the holes with a magnifing glass and some of the treads look a little bad. I don't know if that was the cause or they got that bad from coming loose and bouncing around. Will keep an eye on the new ones.

I agree with Bazooka, there are hundreds of sets out there with no problems.

Old instructions said use loctite on the 4 bolts holding the spacers to the bike and no loctite on the bolts holding the tour pac to the spacers.

New instructions say you can use loctite on all 8 bolts.
