Tour box rear lift

My 2012 TriGlide had no problem at all wiyh the wires while installing the the tourpak lift kit. My wife says she thinks she's more comfortable, but it's a new install, so she could change here mind down the road and after more miles.
But, definitely more room for passenger on this set up on my Triglide than on my '03 Ultra.

Moved mine back on my 2011 Triglide the full 2 inches. I had to pull on the wires a little but they all still fit with plenty of play in them. My wife seems to like it more as she says she can move around more. I also am able to ride with my back rest now. We just rode about 1300 miles, but she still came back with a back ache, I now have beads ordered :) :)

I found when designing them that 2 inches was about max. My wife prefers 1 inch back but I knew some out there would want the 2 inches.
As there are 4 holes in bottom of tour box, one can also use the 1 inch holes in rails paired with the back set of holes in tour box and it is right back to where it was but level.

Just a heads up. I installed the tourpac spacer a few months ago. Just got back from Rolling Thunder and 3k miles. Went to open tour pac and found all 4bolts were almost completely unthreaded. I followed the install directions to the letter so I don't know why they all came loose, but it's something to check on once in a while. Boy! that could have been a disaster.:AGGHH:

The only thing i noticed was tourpack flap that comes down behind the back rest left the wiring exposed had a local shop extend it and it looks good now.

Loctite is your friend when it comes to keeping your Harley in one piece.

If you are running in the front holes in rails, (a 1 inch set back), I supply and recommend that you use two flat washers along with the lock washer under head on both front bolts. If not, you can bottom out bolt against the TB mounting plate and it not be tight. Then if you "John Wayne" it tight, all you do is strip out threads in rails.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />
Check that you put the two flat washers under the front bolt. This is only the second time I have heard this and they had only one washer under front bolts and thought they had it tight but it was bottoming out.
Any other problems, feel free to give me a call.

Dennis, like I said , I followed the instructions to the letter - I did not use locktite on these bolts per the instructions. This time I did when I retightened them. I will always keep an eye on it from now on.

Just arrived in Colorado Springs from Wichita, KS, about 500 miles. The tourpak was barely held on as all four bolts were very loose. I think it was only the liner that prevented the bolts from backing out all of the way. Tightened them back down and hopefully they'll stay that way for the remainder of the trip.

The first thing I'm gonna do when I get home is put some loctite on those screws

Glad to see I'm not the only one that had this problem. I hope the locktite works. I shake the box every time I get off the bike - paranoid I guess.

I have never been personally contacted about a similar problem with these rails before I ran across this forum post. The best possible solution would be for you to contact me personally and make arrangements to return the parts. I will refund your purchase price as well as the return postage. The last thing I would want was someone to be paranoid about a product I make.
I am sorry you are disappointed and have had a problem with my product.

Hey Dennis...Mine works just fine. No complaints from me. I think it is a great product and reccomend it to anyone that asks about it. Thanks again for your innovation!!

To be clear, I don't think it was ever said that this was a bad product. It was only suggested that installing the four mount screws without any loctite is a recipe for disaster.

I am happy with what this kit provides; a lift to the tour pak. But perhaps the installation instructions need to be revised to add a recommendation to use loctite on the mount screws.

John,
<O:pI will be changing the install sheet to say loctite as well as just include the hardware in bag and not inserted in each rail with anti-seize as I do now.
<O:pI do not plan to install mine with loctite as I tend to remove at times and the lock washer system has worked for me.
<O:pIf someone is worried about a product failing on them, I would consider that as a bad product for that particular person and since we are speaking about one of the products I make, I would refund the cost of it for their peace of mind.
<O:pI have machined several hundred sets of these and this is the first report of any kind of problem. I, as well as others, do allot of testing to eliminate possible problems before I sell a product. I also understand that what works for me, doesn't always work for others so I would not be offended if they want to return it.
At anytime, if someone has a problem with one of my products, feel free to contact me by phone or e mail.<O:p

Mine have been on for 8 months and are still tight no problems. A very pleased customer. I would buy the air deflectors but money is tight been out of work for a little over a year. Waiting on disability to make a decesion they take there time. George

I installed mine per the instructions about 4,000 miles ago. Been to Rolling Thunder and back with a bag full of clothes on the luggage rack, and the bumpiest roads in Pa. Just checked the tour pac today prior to heading out to Laconia and everything is nice and tight. Which bolts have been coming loose, the ones connecting the rails to the trike or the ones connecting the tour pac to the rails?

Has anyone relocated the tour pak on a conversion?? Have an 08' Ultra w/Motor Trike kit and need just a little more room for mama. I have heard there are several out there, just don't know where to turn. Motor Trike said as long as I replace the entire "loop" I will be ok.

All 4 screws connecting the box to the rail on mine also. I do not intend to return the kit - I like it - just added locktite - hope that's all that mine needs. If not I will find another solution to the problem.

It's like some people complaining about Harleys heated grips or reverse gear not working for THEM. Mine works perfectly and has for years.
Some people love Mustang seats - they don't work for me at all.

If everything in the world worked perfectly all the time, it would be a miracle.

You do know there is such a thing as Gremlins don't you??:D

I have had the rails on 2 triglide for a total of 18,000 miles. The flat washer/lock washer combo has worked fine. I've gone in to check and the bolts were tight. I just call Dennis and talk to him one-on-one. He's a stand up guy and will pass on ANY and all lessons learned and improvements when they are necessary. On another note, my deflector/baffle setup is performing spectacularly!!!

Just for the record, no problem what so ever with the Tour Box Lift Kit here. I'm thrilled with it. Thanks Dennis.

Well it happened again. Came home from another 1000 mile trip and the 4 bolts holding the tour pack on the spacers were loose about 1/8".
I took out the instructions and read word for word and I did them all - 2 washers in the front bolts with lock washer. Last time I even put Locktite on the bolts - didn't help.
This time I installed the bolts kitty corner (staggerd)and will see if that works.

I still like the set up - just have to figure out how to keep from having to retighten the bolts every 1000 miles.

I have hit some pretty bad bumps and holes, but don't know if that has anything to do with the bolts loosening.

Any suggestions??

Is the tour pak sitting level with no gaps when laying flat..not sure if your bolts are stretching also??

Just seem thought..Loctite if applied correctly should work fine..The red type needs het to remove..

No cracks on the bottom of the tour pak I hope??
