Not sure what happened. Top trunk was fine. Got something out of it and when I closed it, it would not latch. Played with lock and release lever but no luck. Slamming it closed didn't work either.

sounds like something fell down in the lock mechanism and has it jambed up. you might have to take the inner trunk liner out to get to the lock and repair it.

Your profile shows you have a Goldwing. Your trunk has 2 U shaped fittings attached to the lid that go into latches in the trunk body. Those U fittings sometimes become loose from slamming the trunk closed. Check those. Also look down into the latches. They should look like they are in the closed position and will move downward with a slight pressure from your finger and then spring back when released. If not, something in that mechanisms has failed and you will need to remove the inner liner to find the problem.

For future reference the best way to treat your trunk latches kindly when closing is to just lower your trunk lid and let it's weight rest on the latches. Then pull back smartly on the top of the passenger seat back. That will set the latches without jarring them. Good luck..... Jim

Trunk lid

Thank you for the responses. Did find one of the brackets on the lid had come loose. One of the screws was missing. Didn't find it in the trunk. Replaced all screws with stainless steel. Normally close the lid and press it down to get it to latch.

Glad you got it fixed and that it was nothing major. I'll bet that little screw will show up sometime in the distant future when you least expect it. Thanks for the follow-up..... Jim
