To do a conversion or buy new trike?

When I decited to go with a trike, I was thinking real hard about converting my 2010 ultra. But a friend at the local harley dealer told a customer of his what I was planing on doing. One thing led to another and I ended up selling my ultra out right to this gentlmen. So I bought the next 2011 TRi Glide they got in. Absolutly no regrets. I changed the pipes right a way,(Fuel Moto package PVC-SEAC-Headpipes-Jackpot mufflers), but that is somthing I have done on every harley I have owned since I started riding these things back in the mid 70's. The gearing is spot on and this thing handles great. No problems what so ever. Would do it again in a heart beat.

I got very lucky and found out about Ghost Wheels before buying a Voyager kit! I did not want to ride a trike, but needed something to hold my bike up when stopped. I don't have any of the trike handling issues, and added 65 pounds to my bike. Even with an off-the-hook Screamin' Eagle motor, I still get 38mpg.

If I had known about the "Ghost Wheels" before buying my trike, I would have probably given them a try. My only issue with two wheels, were the bad knees. Just couldn't hold up the Dyna.

Don't know of any Trike handling issues? I ride my wife's Trike occasionally when I service it. I love the way it rides and handle's. I'm still riding my 2 wheeler for now, but will not hesitate to go to a Trike later. Does the ghost wheels come down automatically when you stop or do you push a button?
What happen's if you forget to put them down? I'm getting old and forgetful.
I hate to admit it, but I have laid my Road King down a couple of times due to forgetting to put the jiffystand down..:D

:Agree: I've yet to run into any handling issues with my Triglide and I ride pretty aggressive at times. I'm aggressive enough I think 2 wheels would have a good go at keeping up through the twistys. From what I read the ghost wheels have to be toggled up and down by a switch. The only draw back I could think of is in an emergency stop one could forget to toggle the wheels down before they come to a complete stop and not be ready to handle the full weight of the bike. A few years back I had the typical little old lady turn left in front of me, as luck would have it for some reason I had anticipated it. My wife was amazed at how quick it happened and how quick I was on the breaks and down shifting, I literally went from 35 mph to a dead stop in less than 5 seconds.

The ghost wheels are pivoted wheel assemblies supported by a hydraulic ram. When I go from a stop, I flip a switch and the hydraulics release, and the wheel rides on the pavement, supporting no weight. When I stop, about when you would put your feet down, I flip the switch, and hydraulics hold bike up. What happens in an emergency? Same as a 2 wheeler; if you don't put your feet down, you go over. If you are the kind of rider that stops their 2 wheeler without putting your feet down, then ghost wheels are not for you.

Thanks for the info, I'm glad they have a setup like this for People who want to continue riding their two wheeler. I agree with msocko3, In an emergency stop, I might forget to flip the switch. Ride safe!

Convert it! Definitely !!!!! Its a big investment which ever way you go. The first thing you should do before making a decision is test drive as many different trikes as you can. That way you can really feel the differences. I had 09 ultra converted with a champion kit and couldn't be happier!! My opinion is that I think you get a lot more for your money. When you consider that independent suspension, a easy steer (which makes all the difference ) gear drive reverse are included in a total cost less than buying a new harley trike. There are a lot of different kits out there now. I think they are all good and all have different features and body styles. That part is personal preference. What will make the biggest difference is the one who will be doing the conversion. If you get a good installer you'll be totally happy with what ever kit you decide on. Either way you go I think you will not regret the decision. Trikes are a blast to ride!! I know I have no regrets.
