Timing Belt Replacment

Time to replace my timing belts, What is a good brand Gates, OEM , I am leaning towards the OEM. But not sure maybe Gates makes them for honda.Or dayco :Shrug: Thanks for any input. O ya my trikes a 98 1500 still the original belts 48000 on the clock..

Why do you think time to replace at just 48000 on the clock?
Most 1500 owners I know and many Honda mechanics say don't worry about them until at least 80,000-100,000 miles unless there is some reason to do so,like maybe a pulley making noise or some other problem and that even would be rare.You can pull the covers and take a look inside just to make sure there is no oil leak problem in there.
Gates does make a replacement,suppose to be just as good as OEM but a little cheaper.
Mine has 46,000 on the clock and I'm just going to ride it and have fun.

Well i think i will change them for peace of mind...Plus they are 15 yrs old that bothers me more then the 48000.. I believe if i take all the tupperware off to check them i will install new belts. If you do decide to replace them, part #'s:

Gates # 275

Napa # 250275

Goodyear - #40275

I've always changed Goldwing timing belts at 10 yrs, or 100k miles. To each his own, but I have seen first hand what happens to one when a belt breaks.

And to be honest, the ones I have changed at the 10 year mark and few miles looked good, no cracks, etc.

But I did have a greater peace of mind when done.

Yes I agree on the peace of mind thing. My trike was third hand and I saw the maintenance that was pulled by the last owner on it. None. So at 70,000 I changed the timing belts whether it needed it or not. Close enough to the 100,00 mark and my trike is 15 years old also. After three high mileage wing's,IMHO would change belts around 80,000 miles.ThumbUp

Up date: Replaced the timing belts last weekend an i'm very glad i did. Setting on the bike the left belt was very loose. Can't believe it didnt jump time. But you guys was right the belts was in good condition for being 15yrs old. Idler pulleys was like new rolled smooth no roughness at all. So now i have peace of mind an i can ride,ride,ride ... <img src="images/smilies/thumbup.gif" border="0" alt="" title="ThumbUp" class="inlineimg" />

Are the 1800 Honda's in need of belt replacement or are they chain? If they are the same as the 1500's then I just learned something new. Thanks.
