Just popped in to get some input from the "wingers" on when to get the timing belt(s) changed. We ride a 2000 GL1500 w/30,000 on the clock. The shop that sold us the trike said change em @ 30k,but since then I have heard everything from 50k to 150k !?!?

Can't speak for the 'Wing, but the Honda service manual says to "inspect" the belts at 100,000 miles on the Valkyrie. (basically the same engine) No replacement interval is specified. I replaced mine at 80,000 mostly because I was in there for another reason. Under $50 for the pair and cheap insurance. Stan

Yep.....usually a really long belt life on the Wing....ThumbUp

Here is my take on it. If you are the orig. owner, and the trike does'nt sit for month after month, those belts will last every bit the 100,000 miles. If you own a used trike, and don't know how long the engine has sat idle, you may want to "inspect" the belts. But, as I found out, why not just replace em if you're in there? It's not hard, and cost is minimal. But this can also snowball into wanting to R&R the tensioners, as they would be the next weak link aftet new belts are installed. More screw-ups during belt changes, than belt failures are reported! Idler tension is critical, so not too tight. New timing belts are useless when an idler freezes up due to overtensioning. There is a fantastic, step by step tutorial on SteveSaunders Goldwing forums. No chance of a screwup if you follow the guide. Hope this helps! jimsjinx
