time to stop lurking

I don't remember how long I've been a member but a message from administrators prompted me to post an introduction. I've been fantasizing about building a car based trike for years and this community has helped keep it alive.

For now I'm thinking of a trike based on a third generation mitsubishi eclipse GT. I have the car and love the sound of it winding out in gears. The major thing blocking me is the design for the front. With rear/mid engine, there is the visual empty spot between the forks and seat. You know, where the tank and engine would be on a motorcycle. A fake tank takes care of part but the other space is frustrating. None of the examples I've seen, totally grab me. I hadn't considered leaving it empty.

Of course there is the issue of money to buy a welder and donor car.

Hi there...just a suggestion to your problem-what about a futuristic, sculptured set of wings, as on Formula 1 cars, protruding 2-3 feet either side. there are some really cool examples on the circuit to copy. you could simply (!) extend the glass fibre work upwards and rearwards in what ever shape turns you on!
I'm converting a honda bike at the mo. and future plans include a one-off 'glass body and a set of front wings like I've just described. Dave.

Hello from Anderson, MO, and welcome to Trike Talk. You have an interestinig project in mind there. For the empty space I have seen people put a set of saddle bage there, or you can fill it in with fiberglass, maybe make it inot a trunk. Got a pic of a trike that used to ba made in Georgia called the Nova, I have seen them with VW and HD motors. Another idea to fill in that empty spot under the tank.

I Have a 03 Mitsubishi Trike

It's been a while since the last entry but I hope you did not give up on your trike with a Eclipse engine. I just joined TT and searched the word Mitsubishi and now see your post. My trike is mechanically all done. Still body work to do but running down road. It's a 2.4L Auto, from a 2003 Eclipse. Runs like a Scalded Dog. Send me a e mail if you are still working on it. funkyoldman@aol.com

To Cavie

Cavie. hat's a good idea.I kind of did start that way. I bought fiberglass rear fenders, apron and deck lid made for a bug. I bolted the fenders on yesterday using the left on the right side and right on the left side. I really don't want it to look like a converted Bug Trike. But your right. Glass pieces from other vehicles is a good way to get nice wheel arcs and curves. But after 6 years I just want to get it rolling down the road and work the bugs out of it first.

Being Old and Gas.

I used a 04 Ford Focus tank that's about 12 gal so I have a bigger gas tank than I do a bladder. When I am riding my bike I stop real often. Partly because it's not real comfey (VROD) and partly cuz a small tank (5gal). But we will see with the trike. I like stopping to talk too when I am with a group and not having a time schedule.
