Thinking about getting a trike

I'm a Harley guy and love riding but I am going to retire soon and the wife says "the only way I'm riding is on a trike"!! I'd like to stick with Harley but the Goldwing Trike seems so much nicer. One problem I have with both Harley and Goldwing though is it seems like you sit right onto of the gas tank. I don't like the riding position

Have you sat on a Tri-Glide ? I don't see how you sit into/on the tank? Its not a Crotch Rocket. It's just like any cruiser, With Up right seating..

Speaking for the Goldwing, you're definitely not sitting on the gas tank at all.

Welcome to TT! There are more and more options out there for triking, you need to check the used trike ads and go sit on different types of trikes and see what "fits" you best. For me it turned out to be my 2 wheeler that I ended up triking out and love it.

Goldwing defiantly has you in the feet down and possibly back position. Harley should put you in the cruiser position. other bikes will for sure.

Were do u Think the gas tank is on a Gold Wing ? You may be surprised to find out. There are not to many place to put a 7 gallon tank.

I'll chime in one more time addressing the leg/foot position of the Goldwing.

Your feet are definitely straight down and cramped. A position that I also dislike.

What I did was install Roadsmith's 'Comfort Controls'. They position your feet 3" forward and 1" down giving you more room to stretch. They are expensive, but do offer a better foot leg position. And if you happen to get a trike with the floor boards, make sure that they're weight bearing so you can remove your foot pegs and just use the floor boards giving you even more room to stretch out. Using just the trike's floor/wing boards along with the Comfort Controls has made a tremendous difference for me almost completely eliminating that cramped leg/foot position. Get a Wing trike w/weight bearing foot fairings. Then you can remove the OEM pegs and have most any foot position you want!!

Forward Controls Question

I just bought my wife a 2012 Harley Tri-Glide. She is short and has needs the gear shifter and rear brake to be closer. Anyone have any suggestions.

You might try a reach seat from Harley mine moves me forward and lowers me a little. It sure helps me on my Ultra Classic.

This upright seating position takes the weight off the tailbone and is more useful for long distance riding. It also allows you to stand on the pegs in rough areas which would be impossible with foreward pegs. Combine this with highway pegs that let you stretch your legs and you have the best of both worlds. If long hours of riding isn't your thing then you'd be more comfortable with forward controls.
