Tail of the dragon closed?

I just read on another site that a rock slide has now closed hwy 129. (The dragon) I-40 is also closed.

The local news up there has no opening date. Waiting for contractors and bids.

I guess well just have to ride one of the other 15 beautiful routes.:yes:

If you're on Facebook, you can fan Tail of the Dragon and get updates on not just the dragon but also other local routes. This morning, the TOTD page says that the TN DOT has closed the Dragon until 1 September.

But you're right, buddy--no sweat--they've got nothing BUT beautiful roads up there!

The dragon was to heavily watched by the cops ,and overcome by stupid people, theres alot of other roads with PLENTY of turns and twists its too bad for the businesses that count on the dragon for most of there income but I wont miss it , just my 1.5 cents

Wow that sure will cut in on the bikers in the area. Yes a lot of other rodes, but they come to ride that road.

I was told you can enter 129 from the NC end, when you get to the rock slide, you can turn around and go back up the Dragon. The rock slide is closer towards the Tn end. You can get most of the thrill of the Dragon.

This morning, the TOTD page says that the TN DOT has closed the Dragon until 1 September.

Update: Apparently the 1 September re-opening date was just an estimate and will be updated (maybe earlier) once a contractor has been chosen to do the work of clearing and stabilizing.
