Stubborn hubby

Oh! By the way, since the bike fiasco, he landed his plane wheels up!!!! Now, that bothers me......... But don't tell him I told ya!

WHEELS UP? WHEELS UP?
Joan, somehow I don't think your very calm statement here could possibly reflect what you really felt about that! Just my gut feeling...... ;) Thankfully he is ok!

First of all, let me apologize about Chuck Yeager comment. Asked hubby when he got home and it was Eddie Rickenbacker, who was shoved down his throat by his DAD, not Chuck Yeager.

Nana,

YUP< WHEELS UP, right on down the asphalt runway. Exactly two weeks after his MC oopsie. The underside of the plane really faired out well, just two long black marks where the wings meet the belly. The props were destroyed and both engines need to be replaced. He handled it well and the landing was smooth. Other things were going on with the airspeed gages and he didn't realize the gear wasn't down. Totally distracted by another potentially dangerous situation.

IHP he was setup for a great landing. I bet that last 4 ft really got his attention. AH I should have heard a tire skid by now!!!!! At least he did the right thing and just continued to land instead of trying to get it back in the air. That could of been a disaster. Hopefully he will see the light soon.

COMFORT, COMFORT, COMFORT......at almost 58 years old, I can still ride with the fastest Sport Bike Riders in my Area (weenin' myself off the habit lately though...:D), but I view the Trike as the ultimate upgrade in the Motorcycle Arena...not a "step down" for Older Folks...wish I had done it sooner. I enjoy ridin' the Trike more than any Motorcycle I've owned in over 40 years of ridin'....I hope You convince Your Husband...He will understand after a coupla' thousand miles.....:yes::yes:

Cheri, you met George!!! Would he ride anything but a Harley???? Although, he thinks the cam-ams are neat and if that is the way I wanted to go, he would have given the thumbs up. But not for him. It's the same thing with a trike....he'll ride mine, but wouldn't buy it for himself.
Yeah, I know - just offering alternatives!

 WOW!!! Glad everything turned out ok, but does he not think that maybe there's a problem beginning to show itself? Keep an eye on him Joan - he'll always be able to find "reasons" for oopsies (bike or plane), but if these problems keep up or increase in frequency, you might want to think about insisting he at least get a FULL physical!!

My thoughts are with you girl - if it were my hubby, I think I'd be wringing his neck by now.

Cheri, I agree with you! I have been watching him like a hawk, only trying not to show it! This man is an extremely experienced pilot and is rated in everything from WWII aircraft (several of them) to citation jets. He has been flying since he was a kid, as his Dad was a well know pilot and it is in his blood. He is not one to take chances in a plane, so it scared and shocked me when this happened. He still flies with the Coast Guard as an auxiliary pilot and gets tested and reviewed constantly. So I will let his peers keep the close watch on him, as they most certainly will. I have seen a few belly up landings at our airport with lots of damage to the planes.(And they did it in the grass). At least he held his head and other then the financial implications this has brought us, he saved himself and the plane.
What happened was he had a new instrument panel put in the plane, all computerized. Looks like a big screen. But he has been having some problems with it and was taking it back to the avionics shop at another airport when this happened. He said because the airspeed indicator wasn't working properly, he was overly concerned with his landing speed. The alarm for the landing gear didn't go off. A series of incidences which of course, is usually what happens when we have oppsies.

You mentioned the financial implications - is this going to affect you going to Maggie Valley? Hope not!! You don't think I'm driving all the way there in my car just for the scenery, do you? ;)

BTW - any plans for Maine this year?

The Chief has been hemming and hawing for a year or so now about a trike.

His issue is mainly a bad knee, but it looks as if that might be replaced sometime this year. And oh brother, he doesn't really want to do that, but he really does need it. So I guess he'll reassess his situation after that.

(I thought he was getting close to really going for a trike last year, when he asked me for Nana's email so he could talk to her and Mike about triking a Harley. As it turns out, he just wanted to get me a videocam for Christmas and it was the same as the one Nana got for Mike. Sneaky--but a cool gift!)

Good luck with your guy, and we don't want to hear about any more belly landings!!!

I will be at Maggie Valley, Cheri. Thank the Good Lord....we have the money for the accident repairs. We will just have to keep working to put it all back.

Not sure about Maine this year. We like to go every year if possible, but we are taking two weeks or more to go to Sturgis this year. If we get to Maine, it will most likely be for a long weekend in the Fall sometime, so probably with no bikes.

Men are so weird!!!! Gotta love them. Bad knees, backs, whatever, but still won't relent. Sneaky too! Will you have the videocam with you at Maggie Valley????

Joan with him being such an experienced pilot even more reason for concern. Check lists are instilled in your mind as a pilot. Down and 3 green is so basic. The new panel and airspeed indicator were a distraction but should not have blocked the instinctive use of the pre-land check list. The skills are still there though it seems. Maybe a male close friend if they share your opinion can talk with him.

I have to agree with you there! He always calls the checklist out before landing. Three greens are instilled in my mind! If I had been with him, no way that would have happened. I look for those 3 greens, believe me!!!

I think time will tell, as he can't fly for the CG or his other part time flying gigs until the plane is fixed. It will be real obvious if he isn't trusted to fly Admirals around. He doesn't think that will happen, but who knows.
