I stopped by Dubois Harley this evening and asked for an estimate to change my 32 tooth drive pulley to possibly 31 or 30 tooth.:gah: Service manager has always been very candid and honest.ThumbUp He and his son also works there just finished up a compensator sprocket change to one that was 2(two) teeth smaller and said he thinks this is a better change.

Well I don't know everything really a known fact, curious I have no idea if this is a good switch or a hazard all wisdom and experience welcome now I believe more confused than ever.... Can use a little advice. (Hell a lot of it). HELP! fearless

30T seems to be most popular

I researched this a few years ago, although I didn't have to do it, and found most folks that made the change went with 30 teeth. There are threads on this site.

Fred, I know where you live and where you ride. I ride the west end of PA rt. 6 a lot.

With all the mods you have done, I'm surprised you haven't made the change already.

In fact, on the older ones that ride in your kind of area, I would make that change before cams.

Go with the 30 TOOTH.

That's even what the dealer did.

Just curious, what would you estimate the approximate cost to have the dealer do the switch would be? I hate riding my clutch so much to get rolling from a dead stop up an incline and not being able to shift to 6th until 65-70 mph.

Pandoras box!!!

Ball park estimate was 400-450 labor + parts, Pulley from Andrews 150 rough numbers. you know when you have the primary open check primary chain adjuster if worn badly replace it also look at comp see if ramps are worn so who knows once you open the primary case what you will find. That's why I am careful about what I am planning to do. I will probably be ready for everything when I do pulley. ride safely fearless

Harley will sell you a 30T pulley for way less than $100. Andrews has a 31T pulley available, too. PosseRider has a used 30T pulley for sale in the classifieds here.

Care to share Costs

I realize costs vary with location just looking to what you paid not to the dollar just round numbers if you can. fearless

My job was 6.5 hrs @ $70 an hr. Andrews sprocket was $138. What year bike & miles ? HD sprockets are cheaper than Andrews.

I swapped out to the 30 tooth on my '09 also. The job was well worth the $$. The only downside of is that the Speedo was off after the pulley swap. It was reading about 5 mph faster than I was going at 60. I was able to recalibrate the thing when I got a Power Vision.

thank you

I will make the jump just as soon as I count the pulley I have on. Confirm I have I done things without checking before thanks for all the replies I will keep all posted with pics. if I decide to do it. :AGGHH:ride safely Fred
