Rode my trike to work today looked down at speedo and needle was on zero. Came home pulled it apart sure enough cable broke in half, I was surprised it was dry as a bone no lube that i could see, has any one else found there cable as dry. When i get the new one i'm gone to put a few drops of oil on it i guess just to make me feel good. its a 98 1500 with 43k on the clock. ;)

Usually when the cable brakes the wheel gear goes too. Change the whole cable not just the inner cable.

Check with the dealer or shop manual to see if the cable gets oil or if it gets a graphite dry lube or silicon spray. If you put in oil and it takes a dry graphite lube or silicon spray it will bind up and break. Not everything gets regular oil.

Thanks guys i hv the cd manual, hvto check that out and i am getting the complete cable housing an all, In the passed when changing the frt tire i hv put moly grease i hv from driveshaft on the gear for the cable.. :)

The gear breaks not because it is not lubed it is because the the cable binds up before it brakes. And stops the gear while the tire is. Moving .
