My 2011 tri glide radio/cd works fine and then the sound goes off and on. The radio stays on. The dealer can not fix it when it is working OK. Any one have this happen to them?

Sorry no help but welcome aboard.

this is a common harley radio program.the audio board in the radio is cracked and it fails intermitently .my dealer tried all the speaker connections originally then recognized it as a radio malfunction and replaced the radio .now ,no problem.this is a common hd radio problem.many people have had this failure. The dealer needs to replace the radio

Thanks mike,
That might be a good winter project. Is it hard to get that radio out of there?
Larry

Its not a terrible job if you have a set of long ball end allen wrenches or sockets. You need the length to get at the bolts in the side of the radio through the brackets and other misc that are in the way. You have to remove the outer fairing and unplug a few wires along with take the CB module off which is only held on with 1 bolt.

It really is a defect in the radio.HD should be warrantying the radios beyond two years. The problem like the reverse, and the ignition switch, is a flaw in the design or quality of the part and is epidemic.

Like Mike said.
Careful of that rubber gasket around the front of the radio when pulling out. It will tear easily. I've had my radio out several times for various changes and initially put a lot of Vaseline on the gasket for easier in/out. Good luck!

 I called Harley and they said, " call Iron Cross, they can fix it for a fee." WTF, there is 1200 miles on the bike. They did take a report and gave me a work number I can use next summer. They should fix the damn thing for free. For $37,000 out the door they should treat us better than that. :AGGHH:

Iron cross is cheaper than HD fixing it. Their web site say's $250.00 to repair it and check every thing else in it, and also gives a 1 year warrenty. The HD shop say's $275.00 with a 90 day warrenty. I'm gonna wait til spring to get it fixed so the warrenty lasts all riding season next year.

You guys lost me. The HK radio in our '09 has died twice. Both times there was no questions from our dealer, they ordered a new one, and called when it came in. 1 hour later I picked up the bike with a new radio. Is the dealer closed all winter back where you are?? I don't understand the waiting for spring for them to fix it, or telling you to take somewhere else and pay to have it fixed. Did I miss something??

As far as Ive ever heard, is you always get a refurbished radio from HD, not a new one. I have to pay for mine to get fixed because it is out of warrenty now so there is no sense in getting it fixed right now if the trike is under a blanket in the garage for the next 5 months. The dealer is being nice by telling me to go somewhere else with it to save money and get a better warrenty.

Had mine done by Iron Cross. Great people to work with and was pretty fast turn around.
I got 2 cd's stuck in it (don't ask ...lol)
I got to send it to them again this Winter for the now cracked board :-(
Rob ....

Sounds like the problem I had on my new Tri Glide (1.5 weeks old). Last week I was out riding and the CD player started skipping. I thought it was the disk so I switched to the radio. It also started skipping. After swearing a lot, I turned it off. Later that day I turned it back on and everything was working fine, BUT the display was blacked out in some sections and there were verticle lines running through the display (they're gone now). Could all that be blamed on a broken board also????
