In 1964 I enlisted in the United States Navy and was assigned a service number (serial number to those in the other military branches). In the 1970s all military services phased out the use of service numbers in favor of using your own Social Security Account Number.
Last year I started drawing Social Security and the other day I went on-line to try to change which Credit Union Account I had the check deposited. I had never requested a password so I had to fill out an on-line to request a Temporary Password. Using the Temporary Password I received in the mail (actually an 8-digit number) I assigned myself a number 7-digit password which could not contain any part of my Security Security Account Number, date of birth, or address. Can you guess what number I used? If you said my service number, you get to go to the head of the class.
I have truly come full circle!
