Side covers

Anyone here have any tips on how to tie/rig those side covers so I don't loose them ? I bought new grommets and replaced all the old ones but the covers keep coming loose when I'm riding.
Are you sure the new grommets are positioned properly and the side panel tabs are fully engaged?
I've never encountered "loose" side panels in the ten years I had my 1800 Wing!
But, here's a thought: With some conversions, the rear of the side panel trim must be "shortened" to provide clearance to the fenders. Make sure they are not "binding" on the fenders which could cause them to vibrate loose while riding.

# 1 on Rudys panel Keepers, have had them on my 1500 for years & if they happen to fly off,the lanyard keeps the panel safely attached to the bike.

Very good guy to deal with, too

Replaced old grommets with new one the same way old ones came out so pretty sure new ones were inserted properly. You might have found my problem when you used the word BINDING. Two of the panel tab don't really feel fully inserted. (binding maybe ?). I will certainly take a good look at that and correct it if possible. If not able to correct it I will probably do as another rider suggested and go to Rudy's place and try that method. I believe the magic word here is binding. Thanks for the info, much appreciated. Other then that little problem I'm really happy with my 1800 Goldwing trike. Ride safety.

Thanks for the confirmation on Rudy's products. Nothing like "I got them and they work". Cruise safety.

Sorry to hear you have fallen prey to the dreaded Motor Trike side panel grommet alignment issue. I wish I had a dollar for every one I know that has that. My installer botched my '06 so badly that I ended up just using tape to hold them in place. I ride solo so the passenger foot rests in up position helps some but the panels still came loose until I started using heavy duty clear packing tape. I tried to see someway I could attach a tether or bungee but gave up and went to the tape...

I know the grommets can be aligned properly because I also know guys that have zero problem with them.

If you do find a good work around please post it for others to use. Good Luck. :xszpv: :xszpv:

How about using commercial grade velcro. This stuff is really strong, you can find it at lowes / home depot.

I was at DMV yesterday trying to get my Wing registered, and they had me go into the inspection lane. After waiting 30 minutes for some one to show up, the guy asked me where's the v.i.n. I had no clue, so I called Dodds where I bought it and he told me you have to turn the steering bar to the right, and on the inside brace you will see it there on a label. Well got that done, then the insp asked ok now where is the motor #. Hell if I know, call Dodds again and Leon said I don't know, so he yells to Steve ( the installer) and he said you have to take off the right cover where you check the oil. So I tried to snap that off, and sure enough there was the motor #. Now trying to snap the cover back on, I could see problems if I didn't get it back on right. saw the 3 grommets, and the little clips. Not real sure if i got it back on right. Everything has to match up. But I think the commercial velcro would do the trick if you are having any problems with it staying on.

My motor trike side panels fit good, well the one without the cracked off tab does. I can tell the previous owner used tape. I was also before my mishap. I may eventually buy the chrome rear corner piece to replace the black broken one.

What kind / make / year Trike are we talking about?

There is no "1200 section" here as alluded to in my post .... it was a copy / pasted from another forum where I had originally posted the same response before ..... but the rest of it and my pics are of a 1500.
