Shipping cost rant

I have been an Ebay seller for about 10 years, most of what I sell are wristwatches, jewellery and tattoo supplies, which I usually ship priority USPS. Lately, i have been selling some of my hoarded motorcycle parts left over from years of projects. Shipping is at about 2.50 per pound with UPS now!!!! Yesterday I shipped out some used leather saddle bags (the box was 17x17x10 inches, weighed 9 lbs.), my cost was 24.67 for basic ground service. I hope gas prices come down because we are not going to be able to sell things on line if it gets much worse!
Honestly in todays world-I do not know how people who make agerage salaries survive, I guess the key is to just go without, or learn to juggle credit cards. RANT OVER FOR NOW:AGGHH:

That is easy, increase earnings or decrease spending.
I am doing both.

I'm with you on the prices.I learned when I was selling off all my stuff from my bike that if any measurement is over 12 inches the price starts jumping fast.Cost me 42 to ship a crash bar and it was a 15 lb box but was billed as 75 cause of size.

we ship daily from our business and are losing sales regularly because of shipping costs. We used to send out horse shafts UPS (wrapped together about the size of an 8' 2x4)
------ a year ago was in the 20-35.00 range today is at 200.00 !!!!
