Shifter modification?

All my life,, I was 5' 9 & 1/2". After my last physical, I've found out that I'm now 5' 7". What the hell is that all about??? :AGGHH: lol ;)

My inseam is 30".

Ha! Sorry but I gotta laugh! You and I are same height and inseam. And like you I also used to be 5'9&1/2. But everything seems to shrink with age (83) except noses and ears which never stop growing, so medical science claims. But I can't help but wonder if it just seems that way as the rest of us is shrinking . . .

But I digress - you've got me thinking about the RS comfort control.

Konrad,

I always preferred the 'foot forward' position the Harley's and other cruisers of similar design have. How-ever, I always liked everything else about the Goldwings, except the foot/leg position. When I was looking for my second trike, I was all set to go for a Harley. It was at that time when Roadsmith first came out with their Comfort Controls. Being that I really wanted a Wing, I kinda did a "Leap-of-Faith" and went with a Wing and ordered the Comfort Controls even before I picked up the trike. It was a first for the folks at KD-Cycle in Alabama installing this new RS option as well. Although your feet aren't as far forward as they would be on a Harley, they're clearly in a much more comfortable and 'natural/normal' sitting position! It was definitely worth the expense for me.

And about shrinking as we age,,,,.. No one can tell me that God doesn't have a sense of humor! Not only do our nose and ears continue to grow,,, they also start to grow more nose and ear hair while the hair on our heads falls out! :AGGHH: Yeah,, God definitely does have a twisted sense of humor!!!! ;)

You were saying about shifting without a clutch. Big trucks been doing that for years. The truck I drive now has what is called an Autoshift. You push the clutch in and push D and let out the clutch. Push the throttle and hold, it runs up to an rpm, cuts throttle, shifts and runs up again. So I just push throttle to the floor and wait til it hits the speed I want and lift up throttle to hold that speed.

Howdy All, I had polio in the early 40's and now I'm dealing with post polio. Had a Kury heel toe shifter on my CSC Trike and but couldn't use it. Bought a Pingle electric shifter with their GL1800 kit and it works wonderfully. I still use the clutch to avoid banging the transmission but it has worked great. The adjustment of the cylinder height is critical but after I got that figured out it's working great. I looked at the kliktronic and also Pingle and some people had problems with the Kliktronic. I've had no problems with the Pingle.

I'm still hoping that someone will come up with a way you can use the Pingel Electric Shifter with the 'Comfort Controls',,,,.

Roadsmith,, are you listening?? ;)

You shouldn't have any problem with the Comfort controls. The Pingle attaches to the shift lever and the cylinder attaches via a bracket to the original foot peg attachment bolts. There is a full range of adjustment on the electric cylinder that actuates the shift. It should have no effect on the Comfort controls. Regarding moving the controls and foot pegs down and forward. I think you'll like the electric shifting. By the way I always use my clutch when shifting up or down. Seems to me less stress on the transmission and driveline. GL CSC CobraXL trike. I love it. ThumbUp

I though the same thing regarding the adjustment the Pingel unit has as you also stated. But when I called Pingel and Roadsmith, both companies said it wouldn't work with the Comfort Controls. I guess the Pingel doesn't have as much adjustment as the Comfort Controls require. :(

I have a 2010 Lehman Wing with the splashguard, and I just took off the Honda foot rest so you can slide your foot flat under the stock shifter. It works well, allows big feet to slide further forward and you don't have to bend your toe down to get under the shifter.

I am planning to try the same thing as to removing my Kury floor boards and heel/toe shifter. That will also place my feet a slight bit more further down,, which is a good thing!! ;)

What didn't you like about the Heel/Toe shifter?

Unfortunately, I have a hip problem from an accident many years ago. At times, when I go to shift with my heel, I get a very sharp pain in my left hip. That's why I was looking at the possibility of getting the Pingel shifter but found that I can't use it with the Comfort Controls. Removing the Kury floor boards and heel/toe shifter just might be the perfect solution for me.
