I looked back into the archives and didn't find a lot on this.....maybe I just didn't search hard enough.......I am seriously considering a sheep skin seat cover for the 14 Triglide. I PM'd another member and got some very positive feedback regarding the Black Sheep Trading Company in Maine. I would appreciate any comments pros/cons. I am currently using the stock seat with the adjustable back rest. Thanks in Advance..........Alan

Mine also came from alaskaleather.com I always carry it, don't always use it since I got the Ultimate seats, but they do help some on hot days.

LOL, as FRR said, they take a while to dry if'n you get caught in the rain...

Look at Black Sheep Trading Co. on the internet.....that's where I bought my 3-piece set (seat/backrest/passenger backrest). Has been wet many times both traveling and washing....the water does NOT soak thru the sheepskin. I would not recommend Alaskan Leathers.

I also purchased from Black Sheep Trading. Had it on my stock 2013 Tri seat. Loved it. Purchased a Zephlin put the seat cover on my Zeplin and still really like it. repeals water nicely. as advertised it helps keeps you cooler in summer and warmer in winter I ride up to 3 hours then I need gas. I used to have to walk around to get feeling back. Now I hop off fuel up hop back on and I'm good to go another 3

We've been using the same sheepskin for over 10 years now. Cool in the summer and warm in the winter. It must have around quarter million miles on it and it looks the same as when we got it. Mary does vacuum it a few times a year.

We try to keep it from sitting out in the rain, but it has and has never been a problem, it dries out pretty quickly. Of course we've ridden with it in thousands of miles of rain...again no problems.

Unfortunately it has been so long I don't remember where we got it.

having lived in the 2 countries with the highest sheep per person, and total sheep numbers. its safe to say we grew up with wool and skins.. cant beat em for hot or cold comfort... plastic bag keeps em dry in the rain/

Alan,

You might want to check at Village Shop as they carry Australian Merino Sheepskin 1" plush. They have a better price than Black Sheep. I bought from them and had it for over 5 years and loved it (custom made for GL i800 front and back seats and both backrests). You can see a pic in GL1800 Riders' Classified section on page 9 in post "Custom Sheepskin Seat Cover" by Doc1. Hope this helps. Ride Safe. Doc ThumbUp

Got mine from Alaskan Leather. I've never got it wet. Don't intend to. Easy disconnect for the straps. use it mostly for summers here in Florida. If I ever come out and find a wet seat I'll put it on to keep my butt dry. I don't ride in the rain.

Bought Alaskan Leather for me and the wife in 2000. Used them on every bike since and now have them one the Freewheeler. Replaced the elastic straps once; bought replacement elastic strap at Walmart for $3.00. If they get wet I simply shake them off and ride on. Well worth the money.

Interesting, then you never take them off? I never had much luck just shaking to remove the wet. I loved mine, but when they got wet riding in heavy rain, it was a real challenge to get them dry.

we bought ours from Blacksheep in Maine. We love them rode all summer with them . I would suggest a darker color to hide the dirt a little longer.I also use a harley seat cover at night and when wet out.

I bought a sheepskin from WallyLand (wallmart) several years ago for $35 or $40 and had enough to make covers for 3 of my bikes. When they get filthy we wash them in machine on gentle and air dry. The leather gets a touch stiff after drying but a little mineral oil softens it right up again. Mine are not on all the time but rolled up in the saddle bags until i want them which is more often than not.

Edit: I ride solo so there was enough hide for 3 solo seats, would have been enough for 2 full seats.

Yep. At night we cover with plastic bag in case of rain.

When we ride in the heavy rain and it gets really wet, we use a towel to absorb as much water as possible and then let it sun/wind dry. If we don't have enough time for it to sun/wind dry before we need to move on, then we have been known to use a hair dryer on it. :)

If it starts to rain and I can pull over I take them off or if I park overnight somewhere I take them off. Other than that they are always on. If they get wet I shake them off and ride on.

Aren't you defeating the whole purpose by putting it in a plastic bag???

Wouldn't it be better to just take it off and put it in the trunk instead of trying to stuff it into a plastic bag?

Why are your feet on the ground? LOL

Can you get different colors? I've only ever seen natural cream color.

I wish I could say the same thing.

I would have had a lot of ruined vacations if I had not ridden in the rain.

Update, I just looked at Blacksheep and Alaska leather websites. All I saw was black. If all I saw was black, what was I looking at when I saw cream colored seat covers at rallys? Are those different materials?

hahahaha.....play nice you two!!!! Of course the sheepskin covers come in different colors Gary.....put your cheater glasses on and scroll thru Black Sheep's selections.:p

Barbara... You can ease your mind that I will not get a sheepskin seat cover. If I put one on mine, we would not be able to tell our Trikes apart if we park next to each other.!! Cannot have that!! ;)

Sure looks good, but I can't imagine trying to remove all that in a heavy rain, or not removing it in a heavy rain. Solve that problem and I'm good to go with sheep....

I compared the prices of the 2 companies for identical covers. The Village shop was $344.97 and the Black Sheep Trading company was $389.85. I think I got it tallied up right going with a single seat front and rear, passenger backrest and rider backrest in a Pewter color.
* found I did make a math error and corrected it*

Checked out the various pricing and think I got one heck of a deal on mine in Sturgis 2 years ago. Got the large black (covers both seats with some to spare) New Zealand sheepskin for $65.00. I have seen cheaper but most of those are synthetic. There's one fellow that's there every year, in the same store front, selling quality skins in maybe 10-15 different colors.

Keep in mind also those from Alaska & other places are sheared to 1 inch. The ones I have found in stores are all long haired.
If you would like to cut your own to fit & do a bit of sewing maybe,,,,, COSTCO has large area rugs that are about 2+ skins sewn together. There is enough there to upholster the whole bike. Long hair tho. But they are $119.
Use an Oasis day cover to keep the seats dry overnight.
