Sena 50 headset

I want to update my Senna 20S to the new 50.

I know the 50 won't work with the Boombox but why do I have to go through the Boombox?

I can pair the Senna with my iPhone, which gives me music and navigation and I can communicate with other riders through the Senna unit.

I was going to update to the GTS to get Apple play but I already have it on my iPhone so there seems no reason to spend $1600 for the GTS unit.

I'm sure others have thought of this but curious why it won't work.
