Seeking Opinions about a GL1800 Trike I'm Thinking of Buying

Being only 903cc, I expect it would be under powered going down the road with a trike kit on it. Because of it being a Lehman Kit, I would walk away. Your just asking for trouble in finding parts. Just my opinion!

I would think that the value of a Vulcan trike is better than an outrigger type. I have owned many Vulcans in the past and they are fine motorcycles. As far as worrying about parts, I have owned my current trike for over 7 years and never purchased a part from Roadsmith and have owned other trikes in the past and never purchased a part from the trike manufacturer. Not sure that would make any difference with me a far as a purchasing decision. That is a real nice looking trike you pictured.

Thanks, guys, for the advice. I'm still looking. I look at different bikes every day. Your insights are invaluable to me. I know a true trike would be better, if I can see my way to paying cash for one. Not sure I can do that right now. The Vulcan Trike looks pretty nice to me. If I could get it for around 7K, I think it would work for me. The wing trike that was linked looks great. I just don't think I can spend that much. I guess I'm being cheap. I'm not starving to death, but I don't want to run myself too short of cash. Again, thanks so much for the help and advice.

I'm looking at as many possibilities as I can. I also found this one: Log into Facebook
It's a 2011 Kawaski 900. Downside is that it's a Lehman conversion. I know they were bought out by Motor Trike and that the possibility of part availability is definitely limited. Asking price is 9K out the door. I wouldn't give that much for it, but maybe it's negotiable. What do you guys think? Should I not consider it because its a Lehman conversion?

Nice looking trike. I agree with others here - a trick might fair better in the long run that an outrigger. The one on th Wing you showed looked like a Voyager kit.

Young lady in my HOG chapter is selling her dad's 2012 TriGlide. She is asking $15,000. Trike has less that 5400 miles on it and in perfect shape.

Looks like the going price for this trike is over $19000.2012 Trike.jpgMiles.jpg

Hello again. I have finally decided on a trike. I should be picking it up either Wednesday or Thursday this week. The dealership had just taken it in trade last Saturday, and they put all their bikes for sale through their service department before they sell it. I know the owners of this shop. They were all students of mine when they were in high school and they get a 4.8 rating over several hundred reviews.

The bike is scheduled to get new tires all around and an oil change, plus whatever other small things it might need. It is a 2004 Goldwing with a Lehman conversion on it. The bike has 40K miles on it, and it looks to have been well taken care of. I'm aware that parts may be a problem because Lehman is out of business. I'm taking that chance, I guess. The biggest thing I am gonna be concerned about is the condition of the drive shaft. U joints themselves shouldn't be a problem, but if the shaft should need to be replaced, I could have a problem.

I do know of a shop in Dayton, OH that specializes in drive shaft fabrication and or rebuilding/refurbishing. I've used them before. I'm attaching pics of the bike before cleanup and service. Selling price is 10.5K out the door. So, the price of the bike is about 9.5K. Let me know what you think. I do have the option to turn the deal down if it comes through service and I'm not satisfied.

I think it looks like a great buy and a trike you should enjoy. Go for it and ride safe.

Yes, I'm aware of that. I figure if something was gonna happen to it, it would have happened by now. The shop I'm buying it from will run it through service. I figure if something's up, they'll find it.
Just double check and make sure the recall was done and you should be fine

Here is a copy of the service bulletin for further info.
