Satellite Radio

My honey and I have a 14' Tri Glide. Can anyone tell me what needs to be plugged in and/or purchased to be able to utilize the satellite radio option?

You'll need to buy the XM radio kit, comes with XM module and antenna. Very easy install, remove outer fairing, there's a small metal plate on back of radio, two screws, remove that, slide module into opening, install two screws, plug in XM antenna and mount , antenna has magnetic mount. Call XM and activate an account.
i moved mine to the outer inner fairing for better reception. There's also a improved antenna but I don't have that.

I received a notice XM radio that it could be activated on a smart device. Wonder if it could be added to the phone then linked to the trike?? I plan on checking that out and will let you know. Jim

I have XM now as a trial with a new truck I bought and there is an option to get it on a smart phone or device, the issue is that you are using your data minutes if you don't have a plan with unlimited data and if you have poor cell service, you don't get the service.

If you plan on going the phone option, there are a lot of free services available on line instead of paying XM. I know I'm not renewing when it expires in a few days.

If your trike radio has bluetooth you should be able to link them up, for me I use a direct connect modulator, plugs between the antenna and radio and gives me my input for my phone.

Can you explain where it's mounted to the inner fairing? Also who makes the improved antenna?

I use my phone for my tunes, just like an ipod. I can either store music on the flash drive, or I can stream it through Amazon or iTunes. But, I do have unlimited data, so I'm fortunate there.

Thanks for all the feedback. We have put many hours of research in as well as reading your responses. I guess you can call me tight. I refuse to spend $400 on the Harley kit. For any other vehicle my wife, children and I have we could do it right for $100 max. We will be waiting to hear about the phone situation also. Thanks all!

You can also go with a Garmin 650 with XM. Now how that plays into your radio system I don't know but it's a slick way to get both and solve all you problems with phone. I was using one on my Indian but upgraded the GPS and lost the XM. So I'm back to Pandora. Now I got a 650 to get rid of.

I purchased a XM Onyx unit to use in the truck while working and also have the ability to move it to the trike when needed. This is a cheaper option.

You can get the auxiliary plug adapter and mount the unit on the handlebars.

I have this setup, but haven't hooked everything up yet.

I did have this kind of setup on my '09 Road Glide and it worked great. Just remember to carry a water resistant cover (or zip lock bag) for when it rains.

I had a $99.00 Car kit on my Road glide. Used the FM modulator and placed the receiver in storage pocket. It worked fine, but inconvenient to change stations. On my Tri Glide, I just paid the $400.00 for the factory XM. Much nicer.
