Number: 19V843

Recall date: Nov 25, 2019

The Trike Traction Control System software used on the subject motorcycles may respond incorrectly to a faulty rear wheel speed signal by activating one of the rear brakes.

Model 2019 Tri Glide Ultra

Safety risk

Unintended activation of one rear brake could lead to an unexpected change in vehicle direction which may increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Owners of affected motorcycles will be asked to arrange service with an authorized Harley-Davidson dealer, who will confirm that the motorcycle is covered by this recall. If covered, the dealer will install a new software download. This service will be provided at no charge to the customer.

We strongly urge you to take your motorcycle to your dealer to have the appropriate service performed as soon as possible. Should you choose to ride your motorcycle prior to this service, we urge you to be aware of this condition. Some product campaigns may have expired and you may have to pay for the service. Please see your local Harley-Davidson dealer for further details

The last paragraph is interesting to say the least..........

Yeah, probably some intern doing cut and paste from a previous recall. I think it is a generic statement on all the HD recalls if someone does not get them accomplished and their warranty expires.

My dealer called me yesterday and I took mine in. Took them about 20 minutes and I was back on the road. I didn't have any problems with the bike before I took it in.

Just checked my VIN and mine is effected by recall. It is loaded in my trailer as we migrate south so timing I guess is good. Will contact a Florida dealer ASAP.

Thanks for posting that info. My mail gets to me as I travel but generally delayed a couple of weeks or so.

Well, dadgum, just punched in my VIN and it is affected also.

Wonder if the flash will make it better or worse?

I wonder if it's the fix for what I posted about over 8 months ago (if so, they're pretty slow) in this thread, post #62 https://www.triketalk.com/forum/thr...-lots-of-photos-videos-and-observations/page7

Last recall I went in to get the brake switch replaced. I'd never had a problem with it. They replaced it...a month or so later the replacement malfunctioned, and then I had to go back in.

Kevin, I had that pushing issue once on the 20. A hard right turn over a hump, fairly hard on the brakes. Didn’t lock up but definitely got my attention. Other than that one time, no issues with braking, had the update done. Only have 3100 miles on the bike though.

I received the Recall Notification from HD corporate today.* Nothing from the Dealership as of yet.

*

Interesting wording...I may own a model affected...guess they don't know which ones are affected and which are not.

Even more interesting...."software may respond incorrectly to a faulty rear wheel speed signal."*

The fix is a software one.* So what it seems is that IF there is a faulty rear wheel speed signal, then the faulty software will apply brakes to only one of the rear wheels....and the software fix only changes that IF there is a faulty rear wheel speed signal, then it will not apply only one of the rear brakes.* Seems like the recall is to change the software, so that if ANOTHER part does not work right, the computer will not respond in a manner that would not be preferable.

Another way of looking at it-* The recall is fixing something so that if another part goes bad, it does not make matter worse.* If the part does not go bad (rear wheel speed sensor, and associated communication) then there is nothing wrong with the Trike.

Things get complicated with computers.* It was not that long ago that carbed bikes were king...and the only thing electronic was the ignition module.* I will say, I do not miss the points days...but while I have embraced EFI, I still prefer carbed.

I got the official HD Recall Letter in the mail a couple of days ago. Not cool. I'll have to make an appointment soon. Even though I'm not riding much. Too cold here in Iowa.

I notice they didn't indicate the manufacture of the TC system. Don't they use a Bosche system? The gold standard for TCS. Or is it a HD system basically copied from Bosche.

Just got the letter in yesterday's mail. Hate to call Six Bends Harley, or Rock Star, or whatever the Ft Myers dealership is calling themselves this year for the service but they are the closest. I guess it would be hard for them to mess up a software update.

tractiom recall

To you who are having the b2285 code coming up can have your bcm reflashed to the newest software and it seems to stop the dtc from returning. When you go for the recall tell them they should have a notice from corprate.

I got my notice in the mail yesterday. I called my buddy who just got a 2019 Tri-Glide about a month after I got mine. And sure enough he got one, notice, yesterday also. We rode up to Nashville this morning and Boswells had us both out in about an hour. Gave us time to eat in the café. They got a mean Sportster burger for breakfast.

Anyway the recall list FLHTCUTG, FLRT, and FLHCUTGSE (2019-2020). I assume that's Tri-Glide, Freewheeler and the new CVO Tri-Glide.

One more thing, the Traction control operation seems backwards to me. When I read the recall notice it said if you wish to ride before having the update disable the TC. Maybe its a good thing I read it. I guess I've been riding with it on all along. So when the light is off traction control is on, when the light is on traction control is off. Whatever, seems backwards as hell to me.

Called Rock Star Harley (Ft Myers) to set the appointment. Great gal in service said she could squeeze me in right after lunch. It was a pleasant 10 mile run in the rain. The actual fix took about 40 minutes.

I have NEVER been in and out of a dealership that fast for any type of service related issue!

I checked mine after notified on this forum and sure enough mine was recalled. So I scheduled it with Tripps and took it in the next day and got it fixed. The next day I received the recall from HD. All's well:pepper:

Thats why I buy and ride low mileage older bikes... About the time they get all the bugs fixed they come out with a new model. And have to fix all the bugs in them... I wonder why they dont do like heavy trucks and when something goes wrong in the traction control or ABS.The default is turn it off and everything is run manually.. I remember the first ABS bendex came out with on big trucks . The fix was cut the wires off the sensors and valves, And put a rubber valve in the valve. And a sticker on the dash saying the ABS was disabled and the brakes were driver operated... The best fix they ever came out with...

:clapping:

Well, I just picked up my 2020 on Saturday 2-22-20. I just got back from what would have been my first REAL ride other than the 20 miles back from the dealer

I got about 15 miles from my house and the bike basically shut down. Check engine lite, Security Light and Traction Control light all came on and stayed lit. I could not drive more than 5 mph and no matter what I did to throttle it would hardly give anything to the engine. Seems it was in some protection mode. took me over an hour to get 10 miles.

I checked and all those indicators say contact HD deal, who happen to be closed on Mondays now during the winter.

Since TRACTION CONTROL was one of the lights, I checked on my HD app on my cell under my bikes, and my vin shows 1 recall open for Traction control software updates. HMMM.....

you would think that on a new bike, they would have all the recalls closed.

Also on the app, I can't load my vin for the HD connect.... I am beginning to wonder about this dealer...….

Just checked the recall page & nothing for my Trike,, At first it would'nt take the VIN. Then I looked closer & one # I thought was a 1 was actually an L
