On my first ride with the new to me trike, (honda 1800), I upshifted at about 2K rpm and was at 2500 rpm at 60 mph. Does that sound about right?

I just triked my Honda 1800 and found I cant shift into 5th gear till 55 to 60 mph or it wants to lug real bad. Just takes some getting used to running in 3rd and 4th whereas you used to run in 4th and 5th.

My trike does no good below 2500. It likes 2800 and up, does 3k in 5th @ 70's. I keep the power above 3k. Above 3500, she is starting to breathe. Above 4k, you better be hanging on.

On my Roadsmith 2000 = 55 mph in 5th gear so 2500 for 60 sounds about right.

As others have stated I have found that since triked my bike's "comfort zone" begins at 2500 rpm rather the 2000 rpm when a two wheeler. With the hills here in Arkansas I find myself spending most of my time in 3rd and 4th to maintain 2500-3000 rpm. In this range I have plenty of torque for power and engine braking with smooth control.

Knowing the power band of your vehicle, and driving inside that band, is the best way of getting best milage, engine life, and having usable power available at all times. If your cam is 2500-5500 rpm rating, and you are driving at 2k, you are putting and damaging your motor. Wind your gears out some before shifting to keep carbon deposits from forming.

I ride 09 RSV Hannigan, and I very rarely use 5th gear. Fourth gear will run 90 with no problem. I have to be running around 75 to 80 before shifting to fifth gear. It's only 1300cc; but the engine is geared to rev high. I use to own a 1500 GW, and what you are saying is correct if you are going from the fourth gear to the fifth. I rode by friend's 1800, and the bike did exactly what use said.
