What RPM's at 65-70 MPH??

Just for my own curiousity, what RPM range do you guys & gals run at typical highway speeds (65 to 70 MPH). My '99 GW w/2001 CSC trike kit seems to run between 3K and 3500. Is this your normal also?

</div>It depends on the differential gear ratio your kit has Brad. Some of my friends have Motor Trike 2 + 2 and Spider conversions (straight axles) and they run pretty close to 3500 rpm in 5th gear at 70 mph. I have a Motor Trike Adventure (independent suspension) conversion kit and I run nearly dead on 3000 rpm in fifth gear at 70 mph.<br />

OH, don't know if you've done so but don't mix bikes when comparing things like this. Big difference between a GL1500 and GL1800 engine...<br />

Yep, the Motor Trike 1800 IRS Kits are geared higher than a Stock Gold Wing....unless I was doing 70+ mph, I never used 5th Gear.......ThumbUp

When my 2004 Wing was stock I ran 3000 RPM at 70 MPH. When I triked it with a CSC kit, I still ran 3000 at 70. I now own a 2012 wing with a Hannigan kit and STILL run 3000 at 70. The engine is big enough that I hardly ever run in 4th gear unless I'm under 40 or 45, or going up a hill. Whenever I can shift and can get to 2000RPM in the next gear I do it.

Yeah I should've stated up front I have a 1500. I remember the last wing I had ran approx. 2400 RPM at 65 mph or at least I thought so. My trike runs real close to 3500 at 70 mph. <br />

'Course I've yet to see an accurate speedometer on any of MY past or present bikes/trikes.<br />

Me too Mine is a 1500 w/3.00 gears straight axle.

My Valk with MT Coupe & straight axle, with the 205/65-15 tires, runs 3000 rpm @ 70 mph. I don't know the gear ratio, never checked, but it has the older 4 bolt wheels.

BTW, that's the same rpm the 2-whlr Valks run.

I have a 2000se GW and @ 3000 rpm I am doing about 67mph at 70mph my rpm is about 3200 I have a champion kit

1990 Goldwing SE/TriKing conversion in 2006. runs at 3100 rpm with and indicated 65 mph.

I don't know about GL1500s since I've never owned one and only ridden one once to fill up the gas tank for a friend but I do know GL1800s are infamous for having speedometer error as high as 10% of.. That is HUGE. My '01 was off 6 mph at 70. When the '06 only had two wheels it was off only 3 mph at 70. I depend on my Garmin GPS to tell me what speed I'm going. Although I do know that my indicated speed at 70 mph is indeed 70 mph. Motor Trike corrected that off set error on my Wing... I don't remember what the gear ratio is but it's dead on for me...:xszpv::xszpv:

Difference between 1800 and 1500 is were the speed is coming from. 1500 is front wheel ( won't change 2 to 3 wheel ) 1800 is tranny. The rear wheel size and rear end Ratio will change the speed.

I believe my Wing it tacking 3,000 RPM at 70 MPH. I wish we had a 6 gear that would tack about 2200 at 70. Maybe some day. Be safe and enjoy the ride. Larry

2008 GL1800 with Motortrike adventure kit. 3000 rpm=70mph both on Garmin GPS and Bike speedometer. Before trike conversion the speedo read 5mph faster than actual speed. Love my Motor trike.

Looks like just about everyone's trike runs approximately 3000 RPM's at 70 MPH. Mine, on the other hand runs closer to 3500 RPM's @ 70 MPH. If I slow down enough to get to 3000 or so RPM's I can increase my MPG back to between 32 - 35 which is where it should be, or so I'm told. But if we decide to ride on a freeway sometimes we have to run up to 70-75 mph to keep out of the way of traffic. Then our mileage drops to as low as 24 - 28 MPG.

If MPG is important enough, would you consider changing the gear ratio on your trike? Mine is a 1999 GL1500SE so the speedo is driven off the front wheel so gear change wouldn't affect that, just engine speed. Again, just curious.
