Hi Guys

Trike fired up a couple of seconds then stopped and would only fire for a few second each time in full choke. What I found was the fuel pump had packed up, so what I did was connected both inlet and outlet of the pump fuel pipes together so I made it gravity fed and it fired first time. Thought I would let you know in case you have the same prob. Im gonna ride it with gravity feed for a few hundred miles and if I have no prob I will leave it as it is. Changed fuel filter and plugs and washed all the outsides of the carbs while I had the tank off, muck you cant see with tank on.

The gravity feed will not keep up with the demand a speed. This is a known problem with Yamaha V4.s The problem is the points go out,but they are easy to replace. Ask on Venturers.org or Venturerider.org and you will find where to buy the points. I rode these bikes from 1986 to 2011 bothe Ventures and Royal Stars and they are great bikes.

bypassing the fuel pump will work until the tank is down to about half full, after that it will not have enough head pressure to continue feeding the carbs. This is way these bikes have fuel pumps. Bypassing is good to get you home.
