Back from a civil war re-enactment in Pleasant Hill, LA mid-afternoon. Rained from a fine mist to blinding downpours the entire way. Had to find an awning to get under one time, just couldn't see the road. Barely could see ahead of me and wanted to shoot divers going along without any lights on - I'd be right on their butts before seeing them. Put on four layers of garments ending with rain pants and a serape-like rain proof top cover that I tied on over the armor jacket. Long trip in dry conditions made longer by rain.

Wow!!! It must have been raining REALLY hard if there were divers on the road and they needed lights! :D

Seriously, I hear ya. Riding in heavy rain sucks!

Well, according to some marine biologists I've read there is sufficient sunlight down to depths of 650 feet depending on water conditions so no lights required.

What's that you say? Not riding an aqua trike? It tends to sink in deep water?

Just kidding. Yes, I've been in those torrential downpours. Best thing to do is find an overpass to sit under or a nearby gas station, it's not worth the risk to ride in those conditions.

I hate down pours also, I've ridden in more rain than I care for. The ones that grate on me is the all day steady soaker, its like being water boarded.

Yes, I agree, riding in the rain is not one of my favorite pastimes! We have rain gear and keep the shield well waxed so the rain just beads up but yes, it can rain just too darn hard to want to ride...

Done that, been there. Heavy rain at night with vision not what it used to be is one of the reasons I switched to a trike. If I can see the road and cars, I keep going. If I need to slow down, I put my flashers on and tap my brake light on whenever anyone approaches from behind.

If yo ride distance sooner or later you'll ride in the rain. A few years ago on our annual trip from SW Missouri to Minnesota we ran in a good steady rain from Joplin, MO to Lamoni, IA, about 300 miles. Going through Kansas City it was raining inouth that all the cars had wipers on, but we stayed fast enough that with the windshield along with trike, wind and hand wings most of the rain went around us. The key to running distance in the rain is good rain gear, which for us includes rain boots over riding boots and good rain over gloves. We don't mind running in the rain as long as visibility is sufficient, but we have friends who won't go if the forecast says rain. Both attitudes are correct for those individual riders.
