Replacing the HFSM Security System on 2011 Street Trike FLHXXX

(also posted on HD forum but i thought you all could help too since I know there is a lot of knowledge on here)

Help! Here is what happened so far. When I bought the bike from the previous owner, he did not say anything about a security system on it and did not give me any Fobs with it so I didnt think it had a system on it. fast forward a few years and I decided to put one on the trike similair to the one I had on my FLHTCU except this one has proximity fobs and not the push button kind. I ordered the system and went to install it and lo and behold I found the antenna and module to be on the bike. Also they have the same part #'s as the one I bought to put on. The tag on the antenna lead wiring states that it was made in 2011, the same year as my trike so I am figuring it was factory installed but maybe he never used it?*

My question is...can I install the new HFSM and antenna with the new fobs since it has never been mated to a bike and will the module aquire and adapt to the ECM? Is this the same as a new install or will it have to be flashed by the dealership? Can I set it up? Not sure what I need to do here to get my bike secure with the security system.

In the Smart Security System Installation Instructions under Trike and Side Car Configuration.

There's a Note which states:

Sidecar and Trike configuration of the security system requires the use of a Digital Technician. Consult your Harley-Davidson dealer or the sidecar or Trike service manual for complete details.

You dont have a security system, otherwise it wouldn't start without a fob, the delpi has been changed out if it was a system bike, someone got tired of the fobs or lost them $150 to replace a delphi from hd, as i have done that before. My humble opine. best of luck. ;)

The lean, fall over cutoff portion of the program has to be adjusted for the trike side car.

understand....the configuration of Bank Angle Sensor is also addressed in the same Security System Installation Instructions. Here's a short extraction....

OK, I understand the part of The digital Technician but can I install myself and will it run so I can get it on the trailer to get it to the dealer or will I need to let the dealer completely replace the system with the new one i have bought? I read in my manual about the lean and band angle sensor reflash and want to amke sure it is correct.

The other thing I wonder about is, will it be better to find a key fob and have it flashed to my existing system?

You said you've had the trike for a few years and never received fob's from the previous owner. How have you been starting it without a proximity fob?

If you're riding it, then why not just get a couple good used or new fob's and have the dealer marry them to the existing system. Also, at the same time have the dealer assign your own unique 5-digit Pin Code. Then return or sell the newly purchased Security System

If it has to be transported to the dealership anyway, then you have the option to install the new Security Modules and have the dealer configure the system and marry new fob's. Plus still get a new 5-digit Pin Code.
