I'd like to replace my cushioned floorboard rubbers with a set that lays flat on the metal. The instructions that came with the rigid rubbers say to use contact cement or automotive double sided tape. I have no problem with either. I do not, however, want to destroy my factory rubbers. All the Interweb hits I get talk about replacing the entire floorboard, but at $90 versus $17 I'd rather not do that. Is it possible to get the rubbers off without ruining them?

Squirt some dish soap on them and use slight steady upward pull, you can get one of these from Walmart to help pop the rubbers out of the pan

If you want to re install them use some windex on the rubbers, I know it sounds crazy but it works great

Using a tool similar to what Jack showed and some WD40, wife didn't want her dish detergent in the garage, the rubbers popped right off. De-greased the metal and rubbers and applied the 3M tape to the surface of the rubbers. Went for a ride. First thing I noticed was that my pants legs didn't tend to ride up my boot and expose the top of my ankle as before. There's no difference in vibration, but the M8 Freewheelers don't vibrate anyway so I wasn't expecting anything there. I'll adopt the ole "wait and see" attitude. If they hold up and no issues arise they'll stay, otherwise the factory cushioned rubbers can go back on.

Good job, I am spoiled with the shaker boards, I have a lot of nerve damage in my left leg, on long trips I fear the non isolated boards would kill me:cool:
