My father told me this day changed the world unleashing an event that would forever change it. He often reflected on this event it took place on his birthday. When it came over the radio it was evening here in Pennsylvania as he related to me. He was working for the railroad and was not permitted to enlist the railroad workers were deferred to war effort at home keeping the trains running.
My late Father-In-Law was at Pearl, assigned to the USS Sumner (a survey ship) berthed at the Sub docks, next to the tank farm the japs used as a landmark for turning onto their torpedo/bombing runs toward Battleship Row. The things that man experienced that day and throughout the Pacific we can only imagine..... Thank God for that Greatest Generation.
Wow! Thanks for these pic's, sure was a very bad day, for sure! (Very sad) If you look closely at the top of the newspaper, you will see the paper cost 5cents per copy at that time!
