Rear MC tire on front????

If I ever hear of someone's front tire coming apart at the seam from hard braking, I will mount my next tire in reverse. Til then I will mount it in the forward direction for maximum water/dirt/dust dispersion.

Why in gods name would you want to put a front tire on the rear?????? You lost me.

GARYD,
I was just being facetious with Fltr2008trike, of course I would not try to put a front tire on the rear, no more then I would put a rear tire on the front in reverse, I thought the second part of that post would explain it.
I just found it funny with all the talk about buying a rear tire, reverse it, and put it on the front, and which way the arrow would point, and what side the valve steam would be on, the right or the left.

Maybe I've missed something over the 50 plus years of riding motorcycles of all kinds, but I've never heard of putting a rear tire on the front in reverse,
then again, I've never been on motorcycle forum's until the last few years.
I'm for what ever makes folk's happy ;).

The valve stem is still going to be on the right whether the front tire is mounted to rotate forwards or backward, is it not?

Many of us on here have done the rear tire reversed on the front thing, have discussed it to death on here, and highly recommend it. I was the first around here to do it and my dealer now mentions the practice to Trike buyers too since observing how well it works on mine. They did a lot of research also.

Some of us have also installed car tires on the rear of our Trikes and highly recommend that too. The stock rear tires that come on a TG are crap compared to a set of good auto tires. Don't believe me? Try it and see for yourself. Sometimes you just have to try some of these suggestions to see if they work for you or not rather than just discuss, criticize, and over think them to infinity. Now some of us have first hand experience to back up what we state.

Wondered when you were jump in on this long-debated subject, Trent.ThumbUp

Its actually very simple. A rear tire is constructed to withstand the forces of acceleration, a front tire is constructed to withstand the forces of braking. That's why you turn it "backwards" when mounting a rear tire on the front. The difference in tread pattern is negligible, in that the tread's only function in life is to channel water. If the road never got wet, you would not want a tread, notice what drag racers put on the rear, they don't have tread at all. I've done this rear tire thing since '09 and have never had a hydroplaning issue and I've ridden in some awesome rains. Just be smart and make up your own mind. BTW, I use a rear Michelin Commander II on the front of mine.

I haven't changed tires on any of my TG's but in the past on GW trikes I changed to a Bridgstone Battle Ax BT-45.
I will go with another BT-45 when time comes on the TG. I got very good service from this tire, 20,000 plus miles

OK, I want to through in a curve ball to this discussion.....

The FLRT Freewheeler use a 19 inch front wheel......

I am not sure if Harley offers 19 inch rears?

I guess when the time comes, I have some research to do......

Anyway, this thread has been an interesting read.

OK I will bet the has been discussed but what is the consensus, on what brand, over size a little or what have you. I'm thinking about a Dunlop Spitfire raise white letter, my front now is a 130/90/16, looking to got to 140/?? comments??:wave4:

I should think you would have to recalibrate your speedo if you change tire size? I could be wrong but my buddy has issues with speedo.

My old tourglide has a mechanical drive speedometer. How did they ever think electronic was better?

I hesitantly ask but --since we are kinda sorta on the subject --- for those that have been there done that --- what type/brand of car tires for the rear?
