rdkngrudy stopping by to say hello,

Im a new member , my name is Rudy if you hav'nt figured that out already. I hail from Amityville, Long Island, New York (2 blocks from the "horror house") I just purchased a 2015 Tri Glide (140 miles) and tring to get used to it, everyone tells me that i'll love it in time, that re manes to be seen. Ive spent the last 50 years on two wheels but am finding it a little hairy two up in traffic, so hence we will try 3 wheels rather than no wheels. I'm sure most of you out there have gone through the same learning curve that i'm experiencing, any hints would be appreciated. Any way I'm looking forward to a good experience and some interesting communication with all of you.

New rider

I had ridden for almost 40 years on 2 wheels when I got my "3"...... Felt as you.......the best suggestion that I received (AND that helped most) was finding an open paved area I.E. large empty parking lot and slowly doing figure eights - going both directions, shifting hands, etc. and gradually picking up speed. Worked for me, now have 58 thou. on my trike (still ride the "2" on occasion.
Just take your time AND good luck!!

welcome aboard. The parking lot practice mentioned above is a must to get used to the logistics of riding. Then give it at least 400 miles then see how you feel.

We all had to go through the transition.

Welcome Rudy and greetings from out east of you in Coram. I remember a friend taking me down the Horror House street way, way back when. He used to live near it. Give yourself at least 500 miles to get used to 3.
You might spot me riding around LI. Just look for the pic of Bozo on windshield.:qpnmt:

+1 on the empty parking lot and the figure 8's. I am a slow learner so it took me awhile to convert. I also have 50+ years on 2.Once I learned to just ride it and relaxed I found the trike less stressful then 2 wheels.

HEY Rudy. Nice of you to join us. You'll find out your not the only one going thru the same thing. I too had a bunch of two wheelers then went to a trike. Man I'm telling you it's one the best moves I've made. PLUS My wife likes it also that's also a plus. You'll find it's gets easier and easier as you ride along. Best of luck ..ThumbUp

Run your trike in a gear where it's always pulling to cut down on the headshake issues.

Lock the elbow on the arm you use to (push) on your handle bar as steering is an exercise in push pull to help ease arm and shoulder fatigue.

learn to shift your butt on the seat to utilize more upper body strength when cornering and allow yourself stronger contact on the foot board.

Hug the tank with your knees when cornering.

Welcome from Mooresville, NC. You'll find a great group of people and lots of info here. Like you we went to three wheels last October after 40 plus years of being on two. Just give it time and enjoy the ride. After 17,000 miles on ours I'm still trying new things out. ThumbUp
