ray sourwine, new owner, & doing a build of a 1974 VW trike, found in a barn

Here's a little INFO on me,
My Name is Ray Sourwine & I was in a motorcycle wreck in 2000, a kid racing home hit me broadside, I have a lot of hardware in my rt leg from the knee down, it hurts to hold up my bike anymore for to long, & because of some damage done to my spinal cord from a blown disk, my left arm, I have lost usage of my bicep, so I cant lift it up past my waist out in frt of me, & it's getting weaker,

So I'm on disability, Now, & which means a lot less cash in hand.
in May I turn 55, Since I was 6 or 7, I've been riding on 2 wheels, starting with my Briggs & Stratton minibike, & I try & not let it show, but any more I'm having trouble riding my bike, safely, & I've always done everything for myself, & I'm finding it hard now, to keep doing it, & I don't ask for help Well....

A group of my Brothers, a few my close friends, and our AmVets Riders group , which I'm a member of, infact I used to be the 2nd Vice, well, "behind" my back, they have been getting donations, from all over, to get me on a trike, so I can keep riding with them, & be safe, doing it, because. . . .

riding has always been my passion, & my big stress reliever, so I'm trying to do my share & do the research, needed, & making sure we're doing this project right.
They got a 1974 VW trike with a 1600cc engine in it, donated, & a FLH frt end off a 97/98 heritage softail fatboy. "is what we've been told",

my frame has a neck tube that needs cut off & the new one welded on. I'm looking for help in figuring out what angle to weld the new tube onto this frame,
because it has to be somewhat easy to steer, because of my left arm,
& anything else we need to do, or get, to make sure this project is put together correctly, safely, & I prefer it to Look Right also. . . lol And "none" of us have never done anything like before now.

so any info on VW trikes, & help from any of you would greatly be appreciated, So please let me know, Thanks

Hello Ray, Burlington was my place of birth. I spent a lot of time at the Hart roller skating rink in the evenings and weekends next to Crapo Park as a roller skaking dance instructor., needed the money, :D. In 67 and much of 68 I worked at the Army Ordinance Plant until drafted into the Army. When I returned from Nam I settled in Quincy. Welcome to Trike Talk.

Welcome to TT Ray and greetings from Long Island. Good luck with that build. Nice area. I was last in Burlington in 2015 on business (repair at Dresser Rand).

There's a thread on this site delving into VW trike building that is informative & could perhaps provide you & your helpers with ideas: http://www.triketalk.com/forum/show...Tech-Tech,-or...So-you-want-to-build-a-trike?

Anyhow, best of luck in your build & customization. :clapping:
