Rake Kits

Re: rake kit from Bazooka

Another good number to reach Bazooka is 346-800-7946 you might want to try texting him as he stays pretty busy. I just spoke to him today and just to let you know he will do you right. A great person to talk to and he'll help you out with the correct rake kit degrees needed for your bike. My order just went in today for a 6 degree rake kit with 2 inch risers and its for a 2006 Honda VTX 1300 that is going in the shop on Friday to install a Motor Trike Kit. Keep trying and keep your patience (that's what I did) and good things will happen for you!

Re: rake kit from Bazooka

My local Trike Guy wanted $1500 to add Rake Kit on my Motor Trike. I bought it from Zook on this Board and had my Goldwing Mechanic install it for $250. WHAT A DIFFERENCE, Night & Day.

Thanks Zook.

Re: rake kit from Bazooka

I received mine on Wednesday, had it installed on Saturday. No kidding, it is the very best investment on my trike. Just as steel and Kandie says Bazooka is a pleasure to talk to and to do business with. I'll recommend him and his rake kit anytime.

Thanks again Bazooka.

P.S. mine is on a VTX 1300 motor trike.:)

Thanks everyone and thank you also Carlos. Glad you're liking the rake kit.

Re: rake kit from Bazooka

I bought a 6 degree rake kit from Bazooka, I have been in bad health and it has taken me a long time to fit it, I am 76, I live in the UK.

My trike is a 1989 gl1500 with a Lehman conversion.

I have been on my first ride and it is unbelievably good I can steer round bends one handed no trouble at all.

The triple tree's and fork extensions are very well engineered and I am more than pleased with them so thank you Bazooka.

Re: rake kit from Bazooka

Waiting for a call from Marge so I can order my rake kit, zook did say it will take two weeks to get it. I know it will be worth it.

I have fitted mine and the diference is amazing, I am 76 and my shoulders used to ache on a long ride, I now know my shoulders will be good.

Its sometimes quicker than two weeks, but this time of year our manufacturer is totally swamped with orders. They are the premier rake manufacturing company and their rakes are used by almost all the top custom bike and trike builders. Given their quality and our low price & free shipping I think you'll find its worth the wait.

Re: rake kit from Bazooka

I have been reading a lot about the benefits of the rake - but I am still undecided on the 4.5 or 6 degree. I have a 2002 GL1800 w/a Champion straight axle conversion. Anybody have any input? Thanks!

Think of it like driving a car. A 4.5 will handle much easier and quicker than stock and is like driving Corvette with power steering VS manual steering with no rake. A 6 degree is like driving a Cadillac, super smooth and takes very little driver input. They both drive great so it really boils down to personal choice rather than an absolute "must be this". Some like the 4.5 best and others like the 6 degree best. Some say that a 6 degree makes a trike squirrelly or light on the front end..not so if its properly installed, the bearing races fully seated and the steering stem nut torqued properly, I personally like 33LBS. A 6 degree does take less driver input than a 4.5 degree but once you're used to it, its fine.

Re: rake kit from Bazooka

Thanks for the comparison. I think I'll go with the 6 degree for the "Cadillac" ride! I've also been reading a lot of input on using the MPA rear tire reversed on the front for improved handling and tire wear. I need a new front tire and figured now was the time to add the rake and ring-of-fire as well. Thanks for all of the helpful inputs. Ride safe!

Re: rake kit from Bazooka

I don't have my 2007 Honda Trike raked yet since I have little experience on a Trike, but if I decide to go that route, I will get it from Bazooka.

Re: rake kit from Bazooka

Thank you for the 6 degree rake kit on my 2004 Honda Goldwing Motor Trike.
I also had the pull back riser installed. I did not have to slow down today
going through those lefty to a righty.

Glad you're liking it Paul. It makes a world of difference for sure. ThumbUp

Re: rake kit from Bazooka

Can anyone tell me again how to tell if my 2006 GL 1800 has a rake or not? I bought it used and don't have any idea. Thanks alot

If memory serves...I think you have a CSC conversion? That is a high end kit IMO, I can't imagine someone spending that kind of doe on the kit and not adding an EZsteer! Does it steer fairly easily, if it doesn't than you may not have one? Post a pick of your front tire back spacing, and one of the rocket scientists on here could probably tell you. Without more info any responses you get will be a guess.

Re: rake kit from Bazooka

Easiest way is to look down at the upper triple tree section. If it's black it is OEM. If it's shinny aluminum the it is a rake of some degree. Some measuring and comparing might get you in the ball park of what degree rake you have. Several of us would be glad to give you our measurements.

Re: rake kit from Bazooka

Thanks for the info. I checked under the bottom of the tripple tree and its shiney metal. Measured from the bottom of the front fender to the cowling and its about 3.5 inches. I have a front fender extension if that makes a difference. Does the 3.5 inches look right?

Re: rake kit from Bazooka

Hello, I have a 2006 CSC GL1800 with a 6 degree rake and I very happy with it. My question is, I also have a 2002 GL1800 with a Hannigan GTL Sidecar and would like to rake it also now that I no longer plan to remove the sidecar and ride as a two wheeler. What would be the best degree 4 or 6. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Bruce

Re: rake kit from Bazooka

:Coffee: I bought both my rake kit and champion trike kit through zook.

I had just joined the forum and was nervous about sending someone i didn't know that much money off my credit card.:xzqxz:

ThumbUp No problem, We arranged to send half when i ordered through a bank draft and the other half when the kit was ready to ship so my bank was checking him out also.

Zook took care of all the arrangements with Champion and got me a good price to boot.:) That was in about Jan. 2012
If i would have had any problems, you can bet i wouldn't still be a member of trike talk!

Re: rake kit from Bazooka

Let me clarify?

The Hog Halter rake kit i purchased for my 1989 Tour Glide still locks the ignition, but will not lock the front end!

Re: rake kit from Bazooka

Got the kit today so now to get some time to install and test it.

A bit of advice?

:Coffee: My rake kit came with a new lower tapered (conical) roller bearing, which means i had to remove the old race from the bottom of the neck.

ThumbUpIf you have a welding machine, put a couple small spot welds on the race inside the neck and the race will fall out with a couple light taps.pepper
:p There was no edge on that race to get a punch on from above and believe me, grinding and splitting one is a allot harder and more time consuming, frustrating etc. than you think.:AGGHH: :kpzxvq: :censored:

Harley makes a special tool to remove the bottom race, but judging by the price they ask for one they are real proud of them.:NoJoke:

Also the front end fall away on your wheel (according to your motor manual) is no longer relevant.

ThumbUpCheck your manual for the torque value on the stem nut and increase it by at least 10-15 lbs.
A trike front end requires that the nut be tighter than stock so you don't get front end wobble.
ThumbUpThe tapered bearing can handle more torque than a straight roller bearing.:D
Search the forum for front bearing tightness as there is a discussion or two on the subject.

If you have a Harley FLTC goggle- pcombe library/ photobucket- to see pictures of what i did.

Thanks for bringing that up Paul..and I will clarify my statement as well. The only known issue I have had with the locking mechanism NOT functioning straight out of the box has been on Paul's '89 Tour Glide and one other pre-1990 FL series Harley-Davidson I triked several years ago, so I cannot guarantee it to lock the front end on any pre-1990 bikes.
